Tighter security protection enforced in Songkhla during Ramadan

SONGKHLA, 20 June 2015 (NNT) – Security officials in Songkhla province are now enforcing a tighter security protocol along the province’s border with officials from the southern border provinces to protect and facilitate the public during the Ramadan month.

Stricter security measures are now being enforced by security officials in Songkhla province, especially at all checkpoints along the Asia Road that connects Songkhla and the three southern border provinces to maintain orderliness during the Ramadan month.

Extra screenings are now being performed at security checkpoints, both inbound and outbound, to monitor for vehicles that are on watch-lists.

The officials are now offering facilitation and security protection for the Thai Muslim people, especially those who live in the Chana, Thepha, Na Thawi, and Saba Yoi district. Security protection will also extend to cover their nightly religious observance.

Special units have also been assigned to meet the public in mosques and participate in the Ramadan observance to tighten the relations between the public and officials.

Hasn't the Thai military's tightened relations between the Muslim public and Buddhist paramilitary/security officials been a source of aggravation and conflict?

Why? Is a holy month in Islam supposed to be marked by violence?
