An American In Thailand

Featured Replies

I am in school in the States, and I have been thinking about where I want to live when I am done with school. I know I want to live in a foreign country and Thailand has really intrested me lately. I was wondering, if I move to Thailand and marry a Thai and have children with him will my kids be American or Thai ?? How common is a Tahi/american marrage ?? how accepted are they and do Thai know english ? Will I be expected to know english ??

I also would like to have my children (if I have any) born naturally, preferably in my home. Is this common and accepted in Thailand ?? I am also would like to breastfeed my children for awhile is this accepted ??

Sorry I have so many questions !!!!!

Julie

:D Have you ever been to Thailand? I think the first thing you need to do is make a visit :o . After that you could start asking questions about babies, delievery and getting wed.

Sounds like you are putting the cart before the horse. You are still in school? How old are you? Have you ever been to Thailand?

well I am in my 20's so I am not like in high school. I know its alittle crazy, I have never been to asia, I have been to europe though, but I am planning on going over the summer. I am really thinking about moving there because I think everuone should live outsife of their home country for a while. But I started day dreaming.

most of your questions are just tooooooooo far out to think about. However, if you want to come here and check things out, while still in school. Consider a semester abroad. You might look at Webster Uni in ChaAm and the chance for scholarships through Gilman. <start with looking at http://www.iie.org >

Day dream away :o

And I agree with you 100%, I think people should live outside their home countries, even if only a short while. It gives a different perspective on other cultures than you would get just as a tourist.

That said, I wouldn't worry too much about the other problems until they actually crop up :D

Also might think about how you will support yourself in thailand - that alone could be a challenge. :o

You do not want to marry a non-Western man. Why do you think that so many Asian women in the USA have Western boyfriends. It is not because the Asian women are so ccccccccuuuuuuuttttttttteeeeeeeee, it is because Asian women prefer being treated better, not like property.

I rather think THIS bit of gross overgeneralization will draw the ire of some posters and mods here ....

Just a matter of time, I'd say!

And here she is :o

Keep your trite generalizations to yourself eljeque, thanks.

This attitude goes hand in hand with the "all Thai women are BQG's" or the "Thai women are submissive" crapola that so many people feel the need to dish out.

The fact of the matter is that spousal abuse is a big problem in the West as well, so no need to get on your high horse about how great western guys are.

ANYWAY. Back to the topic at hand, speaking of which, OP seems to have disappeared!

Dam I love americans hahahahhahaha, eljeque must be american too

C'mon, we can at least answer one or two questions.

I think you're welcome to breastfeed infants here, but not too openly, similar to conservative areas of the USA.

I don't know about delivering at home (it's become popular in the states in the last 30 years), but you'd have to have an uncomplicated pregnancy, a clean place and facilities in the home, a well trained midwife, etc. Right?

That comment regarding asian women prefering westerners over asians was pretty childish. What do you say about those westerners that 'use' asian women as sex objects and treat them like shit as well? I am Thai, been living in Canada for over 13 years and I know how many of my westerner friends see asian women and I can't say I like most of them.

I will not say asian men are better than western men, and vice vesa. My mother also remarried to a white guy since she was abused by my real father. That has not made me hate ALL asian male, just made me realize that every cultures have their own collections of <deleted>. Making such generalization is just plain wrong and ignorant.

As for my opinion to say if you should live in Thailand or not, that is totally up to you. But like many here have suggested, you should at least go and try to stay there for a year and make your own judgement. Your case is very similiar to mine since I will be finishing university soon and am deciding if I should remain and have a life in Canada or go back to Thailand. Thailand has changed dramatically, in both positive and negative aspects.

I am interested to find out what your decision will be, so keep us posted!! ^^
