PATTAYA: -- With the expected debut of the ASEAN Economic Community set for the end of 2015, the Royal Thai Police want to ensure that Police at one of its key tourist destinations, Pattaya, is ready and they sent one of their top officers to the City on Tuesday to make sure.

Police General Wut, Deputy National Police Commissioner was welcomed by Police Colonel Sukthat, the Pattaya Police Chief who hosted a meeting of all Police Divisions based in Pattaya, including Tourist Police, Immigration Police, Highway Police and Marine Police to ensure their crime fighting skills are at the required standard.

Currently 6 to 8 Million foreign and domestic tourists visit Pattaya every year and this number is expected to rise when the trade barriers fall between ASEAN member countries later this year. An influx of foreign workers is expected which brings its own challenges to the Police.
