PM asks all agencies to alleviate student disputes

BANGKOK, 4 July 2015 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has ordered all related agencies to stringently reduce student conflicts and create an educational network among institutions to enhance the work quality in the future.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has said in a national televised broadcast that human development is a high priority for the government, especially in preparation towards the integration of ASEAN community, as is the development of researchers and technological experts.

He has said that the human development mechanism in Thailand has not been able to create personnel that truly meets the nation's demands, thus an overhaul of the entire education system in Thailand is required.

He stated that the government is now promoting vocational education and encouraging the creation of network between vocational students and the higher education institutes. This will provide students with more opportunities to improve their abilities, especially foreign language skills, which will improve their work capabilities in the future.

The Prime Minister further said regarding the disputes among vocational students, still considered a major problem resulting in parents' reluctance to send their children to receive education at vocational institutes. All related agencies have been ordered to stringently solve the disputes.

Vocational students and alumni are to stop the disputes and become the pillar of human resource that the nation needs.

He's running scared and knows full well that non-violent student opposition to the junta and the increasing suppression of free-speech will seed his downfall so he's thrashing around for a way through this major and growing threat to his future.

They said the same about the fishing industry and so far they are sticking to it. Just because PTP couldn't find an education minister that could actually do the job, doesn't mean it can't be done.

Most comments in the OP ARE correct!

Unfortunately, education requires individuality, alternative opinions and views, challenging existing technology and ideas.

Stifling enthusiasm and ideas breeds stupidity, laziness, uselessness and a robotic workforce that just does as its told and contributes very little to improve the country's future.

The Thai education system does seem to produce many people suitable for the military though...ummmm

I am not surprised the General has spoken out strongly in favor of vocational training and reducing student conflict. It's an army-like vision.

Kids in uniform, behaving, learning how to be good workers.

Vocational training is ok. It's not an education strategy. It's a job training strategy.

NO

The nation has produced more than enough soldiers and officers to meets its needs.

Now it needs to produce a democratic society to take back control of the nation.

"...creation of network between vocational students and the higher education institutes. As has been pointed out many times, the foreign language abilities of Thai uni grads ain't all that (slang on purpose, before I get jumped). Most bar girls speak better English than college grads. Maybe they should be hired as teachers during "off hours"?

No, it is a political strategy because vocational faculty toe the party line and do not encourage critical thought.

Vocational colleges teach students to work as mechanics, hairdressers etc. That is what they are for that is what they do.
