webfact Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight titleDan Rafael, ESPN Senior Writer(ESPN) The WBO stripped pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather of his welterweight world title on Monday for his failure to comply with the organization's rules.Mayweather claimed the WBO welterweight title when he outpointed Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in a 147-pound unification fight that shattered all financial records for a boxing match, including total gross, pay-per-view subscriptions, closed circuit revenue, live gate, foreign television sales and sponsorships.Mayweather, who holds two other alphabet welterweight world titles, let come and go the 4:30 p.m. ET Friday deadline by which he had to pay a $200,000 sanctioning fee from the May 2 fight (for which he earned more than $220 million) and vacate the two junior middleweight titles he also holds.Full story: http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/13211446/floyd-mayweather-jr-stripped-wbo-welterweight-title-- ESPN 2015-07-07
Bernard Flint Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Looks like he needs a financial adviser. Looks like he needs another 200 milion fight
ezzra Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 With hundreds of millions of dollars in his bank account and almost no one to fight and nothing to prove anything to nobody, why shouldn't he retire? he doesn't want to end up like Ali, having all the fame in the world but with half a brain..... Smart boy he is....
Crossy Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Does he get a chance to fight for the now vacant title (a rematch maybe)? Another 20+ million in the bank! "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
Seastallion Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Looks like he needs a financial adviser. Looks like he needs another 200 milion fight I don't think he's going to get that much. He has one more fight, on September 12, to complete his 6 fight contract with CBS, but nobody is going to pay again after the disappointment of the Pacman fight.
Argus Tuft Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Does this mean Pacquaio gets the title by default instead?
shirtless Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Moneywether lost that fight American boxing is comical
eggers Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Sport is no longer sport.....just more & more money making. The likes of Mayweather do little to promote essence of true sport.....fun & enjoyment.
little mary sunshine Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Impossible to cure stupid....in ten years or Less he will be on Welfare !!
SOUTHERNSTAR Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Boxing has become a farce. If he can't keep a title why is he allowed to fight for it ? $$$$$
Dogbreath Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Looks like he needs a financial adviser. He's too busy or maybe he hired himself for a financial advisor. He should talk to Mike Tyson and a few other hapless mooks who didn't need one either. They either hired Don King or someone close to him, or their wife's second cousin who failed math, but has his lip prints firmly embossed on The Champ's buttocks. Gurgle, gurgle..... the sound of hundreds of millions of dollars circling the drain.
Don Mega Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Boxing has become a farce. If he can't keep a title why is he allowed to fight for it ? $$$$$ did you read the article ?
JemJem Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Sport is no longer sport.....just more & more money making. The likes of Mayweather do little to promote essence of true sport.....fun & enjoyment. Two guys beating up each other shouldn't be called a sport.
Monkeyrobot Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Does this mean I can get my 500B back from Nok at the cowboy I lost because I backed the Pac man ???
smotherb Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 If and when a rematch is finalized; anyone who pays to see it is a fool.
smotherb Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Sport is no longer sport.....just more & more money making. The likes of Mayweather do little to promote essence of true sport.....fun & enjoyment. Two guys beating up each other shouldn't be called a sport. You didn't watch the fight did you? These two guys didn't beat each other up; they played patty cake. Got to admit, patty cake may be more of a sport.
eggers Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Saw reports on news, so what's your point?? I'm saying irrespective of the "sport".... it's all about money! Agree??
Thaidream Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Boxing is about money and nothing else and is about a corrupt as one can get. During my younger days I was approached by a pimp by the name of Don King in a place called Helen's bar in Cleveland, Ohio. He was young, brash and full of BS. I did not take up his offer although his goods were appealing. Like the man said- Only In America! If you don't know who he is- Google him/
wabothai Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Who is Mayweather? Actually, who gives a sh$t. Actually he is a thug with quite an impressive boxing record.
MRDave Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 With hundreds of millions of dollars in his bank account and almost no one to fight and nothing to prove anything to nobody, why shouldn't he retire? he doesn't want to end up like Ali, having all the fame in the world but with half a brain..... Smart boy he is.... Nothing to prove? he is the best dancer in World boxing history.
