I live between Big C and Klong Hae floating market, the local builders / workshops / garages / market tradesmen seem to think its some kind of dump - just because there is a green strip of land without a house on it.

Hat Yai tessaban seems to recognise the issue and frequently send teams / heavy machinery and big trucks to clean the crap up. The tippers know they are doing something wrong, I have taken photos before and tried to follow the guys, but were chased off. It's looks unsightly, and the smell is pretty bad with rotting vegetables.

Signs went up a few months back, but no telephone number .. now there is a mobile number for the 'Tessakit' police, who seem to be good at chasing some things, just hope they can put a stop to the fly tipping.

The number is 086 959 0845 if you ever need it.

Not sure which looks worse, the trash or the signs.

I can guess which smells worse...

Before the signs went up I asked the missus if it was ok to just dump your rubbish wherever .. She didn't know. Our western mentality says it's totally wrong.

At least those signs now clarify the situation

The root of the problem is the waste management in the city, those blue bins are emptied nightly, we need double the number of bins for the residents alone, so I guess there is no provision given to local business. It's not uncommon to see tipper loads of rubble, rotting plant matter or hundreds of car tyres fly tipped at the end of the day.

I am all in favour of fly-tipping so long as the flies are mosquitoes and they are dead.

How do you know if you have a tough mosquito?
You slap him and he slaps you back!

What is the most religious insect?
A mosque-ito!

What has 6 legs, bits and talks in code?
A morese-quito!

What is the difference between a mosquito and a fly?
Try sewing buttons on a mosquito!

What do you get if you cross the Lone Ranger with an insect?
The Masked-quito!

What has antlers and sucks blood?
A moose-quito!

What is a mosquito's favorite sport?
Skin-diving!

What's the difference between a lawyer and a mosquito?
A mosquito drops off you when you die!

Why are mosquitos religious?
They prey on you!

Why did the mosquito go to the dentist?
To improve his bite!

Fly tipping is not a term with which I am familiar. I clicked on here to see if it was something akin to cow-tipping.

I was all excited when I read the topic....I thought it would be about trout fishing in Hatyai. sad.png

At least you've got a blue bin, all the ones on our soi in Hat Yai Nai have been pinched years ago, so people just pile stuff up around the nearest lamp post, thankfully we do get daily collections - could you imagine if it were only once a week!

It's a British thing, 'on the fly' means doing it behind someones back, hence 'fly tipping'. Like people taking on extra work

and not telling the taxman, and before someone comments, yes, I would know about it.

I have lived in the same house in Hatyai for eight years. We have garbage collection at our door quite often--would have to ask the wife exactly how often. Never had a problem with not picking-up the garbage, smell, or fly-tipping. Perhaps you should move to a better neighborhood.

It's disgraceful. I run along Samila every day and see scores of soiled daipers just left there by parents too ignorant/lazy to put them in a bin.

Thanks for that - I'm not too sure how you can judge my neighborhood but it's nice, my house isn't over looked, cows roam up and down the land in front, there's a few 10million baht plus houses close by - so I don't think it's any less 'better' than your neighborhood.

The council do empty the bins every night and to their credit, also clear up the dumped industrial waste - it's just a shame other HY residents from outside the area want to spoil ours. This is Thailand, you never shit on your own doorstep, just go and throw it on someone else's, they probably come from your area.

I'm glad that you won't have any use for the tessakit number, now jog on.

Ring the tessaban. I have found that they respond very well to calls and act promptly on municipal matters. I feel sure they will get a bin out to you within a day or two.

The problem wouldn't be getting a new bin from the tessaban, it would keeping it, I suspect one night it would likely disappear along with the rubbish.

I said "perhaps." However, with people throwing garbage, cows passing by, industrial waste, and only B10m houses; it must be my neighbors fly-tipping your way.
