Overstay fines for kids at Phuket Airport

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any up to date info on whether they are issuing fines for kids on overstay at the moment? Just want to be prepared when leaving the country next week.

There were a few cases of fines being issued earlier in the year but no news since.

Kids (parents) aren't, or shouldn't be, fined for overstay, and I've not heard of any change.

Thank for this topic. My friend is looking this for her son.

The worst that can legally happen to the parents is stated in section 74 of the Penal Code.

Months ago, I saw a news article quoting a senior immigration officer who suggested that immigration should seek the prosecution of the parents of overstaying children under that that law but unsurprisingly, nothing came of it.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Exited DMK last week with my kids. They had over a year overstay. The officer didn't say anything, just stamped them out.

To update, no fines issued when we left last week. Overstay stamp and on our way

Ok I know it's a silly question , but how do kids overstay while parents do not ?

I think every family has different reasons. For many, the parent is on a visa whereby they have to leave every 90 days and do not wish to take the child with them.

For me personally, I have 3 kids. 1 is on an Ed visa so no overstay. 1 who's passport expired midway through her 1 year Ed visa and renewing through the school was just too complicated to explain to them. For my last kid, I did a change of visa status combined with a business trip and taking my child with me was just not possible. He was on a dependent visa.
