Greste awaits Egypt's retrial verdict

SYDNEY: -- An Egyptian court will decide on Thursday if Australian journalist Peter Greste will again be convicted of terrorism-related charges.

Mr Greste's career as a foreign correspondent is on the line, as he awaits a verdict in a retrial that has been conducted without him in Cairo.

The reporter was deported by Egypt in February, after 400 days behind bars.

He and his two Al Jazeera colleagues had been serving seven to 10-year sentences for aiding a terrorist group.

They were found to have produced false news in support of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group, which was declared a terrorist organisation after Morsi was ousted by the military.

Dear oh dear, poor Mr Greste. If he is convicted in absentia, he will have to forever endure the indignity, humiliation and deprivation of avoiding countries which have extradition treaties with Egypt. Meanwhile, his two colleagues will be frollicking and laughing, as they gleefully prance about inside an Egyptian prison for up to 10 years.

Who writes this tripe ? Julie Bishop ?

I wonder if this is what the U.S. had in mind, when they forced their hands with regard to creating their so called dream of democracy in Egypt?
