It's difficult to apportion blame in this situation.

A vehicle of that size wouldn't feel anything underneath or being dragged along.

We also don't know if the Mother had a licence and was an experienced rider, or whether she panicked at the truck being to close and she laid the bike down. There is no report of the truck coming into contact with the bike.

Forced of the road or panicked, whichever, it was an awful way for anyone to lose their life.

RIP little Lantaporn Duongkhare.

Sensible post. The way that most of the locals ride their crotch rockets, there's a good chance she didn't give way. It also looks like it may have been raining so heightens the possibility of them being unsighted by the truck driver.

It could also be that the truck driver didn't know she was trapped under his truck.

That's what I was thinking. Driver most likely had no idea that he had hit the bike or dragged the child.

Does not make it right, just a sad fact.

Spot on LIK...i'm not suggesting at all that the truck driver is totally innocent here, but when driving big rigs like this [it is after all an 18 wheeler, not a small pick up type truck] it is quite easy to not notice a small bike and or feel an impact....especially a small child...truck was rounding a bend in the road and is very likely indeed that the driver knew nothing at all of the tragedy that was left behind him....post-169941-0-00400600-1438398473_thumb.

PS ......i'm much more pissed that TV felt the need to post the photo in all its gory detail..totally un neccessary to do so IMO>

We can only hope she died quickly, and that the driver of this truck dies slowly and painfully.

so he killed someone and just run off, thai style

when will they teach in school that this is not ok ?

Look at college kids fighting each other, guns knives, iron bars

My guess is schools teach that its ok to kill someone

If the parents don't give a toss then what hope is there for the kids

As for this poor girl RIP

Horrible tragedy, nasty little b@stard for running away, but its also a sad confluence of circumstances.

What was a 12yr old doing on a motorbike on a highway?

Law enforcement to blame too, for allowing this cultural throwback to flourish.

12 year olds, and much younger end up on bikes on highways here, becaue most people cannot afford a car . .

This road has two lanes in each direction. There is an extra lane as wide as a car lane for motorcycles, this is not a highway as some posters suggest. So the truck must have cut the extra lane. There are a lot of bends on this road and truckdrivers don't want to reduce speed and prefer to cut the corners. I feel very sad this young girl died. Such stupid accidents happen to often.

very, very sad, I think of the mother who watched helplessly the death of his young daughter.
A thought to his immediate family.

"HER" Immediate familywai2.gif It was a little girl------- RIP Darling

How very sad , poor girl had only just started out in life . But to say the truck driver needs to be locked up for life or to die slowly for murdering a child is nonsense. We don't know whether the mother on the scooter was fully awake , if she had lights on her scooter . We don't know if the truck driver thought he had hit a pot hole , he might of looked in his mirrors but then look at the waterlogged road, and only just about light. The truth may never come out , all we know is a poor girl is dead and her mother must be in a state of shock. All those that apportion the blame can we see your photos of the crime please.

This boils down to the culture and attitude of most Thai drivers. They have no regard for pedestrians or anyone else on the road.History seems to have proven to them that there is no accountability so they drive like thoughtless callous kings of the road.

Even crossing the street in a heavy traffic jam drivers will lunge forward in their cars coming close to hitting you just so they can stop a few feet later.

The BIB being lazy and corrupt doesn't help the situation. No wonder Thailand is #2 in the world for road deaths.

It certainly is possible that he didn't know the little girl was trapped under the truck, but it extremely unlikely that he wasn't aware that he did the motorcycle.

I am by no means a "Thai basher" (and often take them to task on this forum), but I think that there is a good chance that the truck driver will turn himself in to a Phuket police station in the next couple of days. Just long enough for whatever substance he was under the influence of has cleared his system.

Where were the police for the Tha Chat Chai police checkpoint?

Any CCTV at the checkpoint?

Yes, police and cameras. Cameras pointing to front and rearof vehicle. If police have a time and rough vehicle description for the incident then they should easily be able to identify the number plate. This driver will be caught.

Long vehicle.

Front of vehicle takes the corner wide. Rear of vehicle doesn't. Simple geometry. The effect is more pronounced for articulated vehicles like this 18-wheeler.

This effect creates a "corridor of death" for motorcyclists trying to go up the inside. The way ahead simply narrows to nothing and the motorcyclist is trapped between walls closing in.

Motorcyclist needs to plan ahead for this effect, braking well ahead of time and giving way.

I dont follow your geometry logic, anyway ther are no "corners" on that road only bends.

Why is it that the Thai police feel the need to show the scene of the accident with the deceased only half covered up although they are dead there is still dignity that could be observed R.I.P to the young girl I hope she did not suffer to much

Very sad,,But what are the facts???Who was wrong??were did the motorbike got under the truck/trailer,,,If a very heave laden truck by accident hits a swerving motorbike with the tail end of the trailer he would not feel it So before any of you knowalls start screaming your heads of GET THE FACTS FIRST, than if the trucker is wrong Chase his arse,,If the Motorbike rider is wrong ,and the trucker did not feel/see the motorbike ,,they owe the trucker an apologie,, wai2.gif

The vast majority of drivers 'prefer to cut the corners' here in Phuket no matter what speed they are travelling, with the mini busses being the worst culprits.

Drivers in Thailand (Thai drivers?) do not appear to have the ability to drive within the marked lanes on the roads, be it through lack of driver training, lack of common sense or simply the fact that they have no thoughts on the possible implications of their attitude towards driving.
