EricBerg
"High-ranking police officials including Deputy National Police Chief"... ", Deputy Chief of the Central Investigation Bureau, Pol Maj. Gen."... "and Chief of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division, Pol Maj Gen?"... The guys convened today. Why doesn't it sound convincing? The post speaks of dozens of Thais. But there are at least tousands of Thais, Burmese, Cambodians, Laotians, Rohingya enslaved. That means there must be many many criminals involved in the orginasation(s). Including many police and army personel. What happened to the few that were arrested? Why is there no news whatsoever of the ongoing investigations? How many more official rats are being targetted? Isn't the Koh Tao-mess big enough as is? Do the socalled investigators have to raise failure to an exponential level? Shouldn't there be a tier 4 status for this longlasting, horrible, massive crime? Pib
Issue a few more warrants...take no real action to hunt down and capture the folks the warrants were issued against....have the National News Bureau of Thailand which is part of the Govt Public Relations Department issue a warm & fuzzy article, sit back and wait of the next annual TIP report....maybe a new ranking just for Thailand, Tier 4, can be created. scorecard
Easy and serious comment - there is no valid reason whatever why the arrest warrants were not issued at least two months ago.
espinoza
Just acting for the gallery. No names, no convictions publicized.
espinoza
Why are not any Royal Thai police officers arrested, charged and convicted?
Dibbler
Spare a thought for the thousand trafficked Myanmar people on Thai slave ships in Indonesia that Thailand won't be bringing home any time soon. casualbiker
Spare a thought for the thousand trafficked Myanmar people on Thai slave ships in Indonesia that Thailand won't be bringing home any time soon. Why would Thailand bring them home, they are Burmese nationals. Myanmar should bring them home, it's just as much their fault as it is the Thais. The recruitment gangs operate openly in Myanmar! Actually also look at Malaysian and Indonesia involvement. They are trafficked through Malaysia and held on Indonesian islands (these islands are not uninhabited islands) And yet both countries get an upgrade off the tier 3 list! Especially this excerpt: 60 Myanmar vessel crews do not want to be relocated since they are still waiting for their salaries and some of them have married with local residents http://maritimenews.id/safety-threatened-347-vessel-crews-of-benjina-case-are-relocated-to-tual/ Edited August 2, 2015 by casualbiker

phoenixdoglover
That press release from NNBT is pretty thin gruel. But I am imagining the meeting of those high level police officers. Something like a Monty Python sketch. Lot's of indignation at the turn of affairs; accompanied by much tut-tutting and harumphing.
spidermike007
How many arrest warrants have been issued against Thai nationals for trafficking in Burmese laborers, for the fishing industry? How many boat captains and boat owners have been arrested? Somehow, when you only pursue others, and establish a culture of impunity for your own, the deterrent factor is lost. Is Little P. listening? Is he interested? Is not upsetting the apple cart, and leaving the current system in place so important, that this important task of tracking down these insects is being ignored? Going after the boats for proper license documents somehow does not impress us, when there are slaves on board!
