Working holiday visa. Stay up to a year of you want. Can work if you feel like it as well..

"Working holiday visa."

What is a working holiday visa?

It's a program whereas based on where you're from you can get employment in specific countries as part of a working visa, there's a list of countries that participate in this. There are many from Ireland, France and Spain that work where I'm at. Before anyone gets any ideas lol, there's an age cutoff and I'd bet a large sum that thailand does not participate in this.

You'd lose a large sum then... :)

Thailand and Australia have a working holiday agreement.

what is the chance of getting in with just a one way ticket from Gold coast booked?

There is no requirement for a return/onward ticket if a valid visa is obtained prior to departure.

first i've heard of ths, and asked many people. how when sending visa application documents, they are asking for a return ticket also...

I have seen posts starting that they were not asked for a ticket at the embassy in Canberra.

If they did want a ticket out of the country you could get a one way ticket to a nearby country on a low cost carrier to show them.
