The fire started in the car but spread to two properties.

PHUKET: -- More than B500,000 worth of damage was caused yesterday (August 3) after a car caught fire at a residential property in Kathu and spread to two properties. Police have stated that they believe a short circuit in the car is to blame.

At 3:30am yesterday, Thungtong police were called to investigate a fire that had totally destroyed a car and damaged two houses in Moo Baan Anuphasmanorom Golf View in Kathu.

Fire fighters from Kathu municipality and Kusoldharm rescue workers had already arrived at the scene to find a Honda Civic buring in a garage adjoined to one of the houses.

Firemen tried to douse the flames from the car, however, they were not able to control the fire and it spread to the home where the car was parked and a neighbouring one.

Finally, after 30 minutes firemen where able to control and put out the fire.

As a result of the fire, the Honda Civic was totally destroyed and parts of the two homes, including a garage, were damaged. Police estimate total damage is in the region of B500,000.

The car owner, Sripen Inpinkaew, 56, told police that she returned home from work, parked the car in the garage and went to bed.

“An explosion woke me up and I saw flames all over the car. The fire was spreading rapidly so I called the fire brigade.”

Police believe there may have been a short circuit in the car engine, however, they will investigate further to find the true cause of the fire.
