35-year-old Koh Kaew resident Eakachart Pitakkarn was caught with the gun and bullets in from of the Silver Resortel in Patong.

PHUKET: -- A man from Koh Kaew was arrested with bullets and another personʼs gun outside a hotel in Patong yesterday afternoon (August 5).

At 3:45pm, Kathu police arrested Eakachart Pitakkarn, 35, from Koh Kaew in front of the Silver Resortel on Sawatdirak Rd for illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.

Police seized from him a .22 Smith & Davison pistol (registered in a different name) and six rounds of .22 Magnum bullets.

The arrest of Eakachart came after police received a call from the hotel about a suspicious man who was walking around the area with a gun.

Police arrived and found Eakachart in front of the hotel with the gun in a holster on his belt. Following a police check on the weapon it was found it was legally registered but not to Eakachart.

Eakachart was taken to Kathu Police Station where he was charged with illegal possession of another person, illegal possession of ammunition and carrying a firearm in a public place without a permit.

No surprise for me .... far too many Thai guys walking about with fire arms (and bullets) ... some legal and some illegal.
