Subcommittee set to established for human trafficking prevention

BANGKOK, 6 August 2015 (NNT) – A subcommittee tasked with the prevention of human trafficking in employment is set to be established by the Ministry of Labour, an official has said.

The MOL’s Deputy Permanent-Secretary Arrug Phrommanee has revealed the outcome of the special meeting of the subcommittee, regarding Thailand’s Tier 3 ranking on the Unites States’ Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Resources (MSDHS) saying the meeting discussed accusations and suggestions stated in the TIP report.

Accusations on the nation included; a reduction in prosecutions of human trafficking cases compared to the previous year, unprofessional officials were handling the sorting of trafficking victims, the existence of forced labor and debt bondage, and the absence of regulation over the recurring agencies of laborers who were working aboard.

The MOL’s Deputy Permanent-Secretary has said that the meeting has appointed the MOL to establish a new subcommittee tasked on the prevention of human trafficking in employment and the labor sector.

The new subcommittee will work with the related agencies to set up the prevention and regulation system for immigrant workers in fishing boats, and forecast the demand of immigrant workers in Thailand in the future.

On the TIP report, the Deputy Permanent-Secretary has also revealed that the MOL has come up with notices on the debt bondage terms, stating specific parts of the labour sector the Unites States as reference. He also pointed that the reduced number of prosecutions on trafficking cases was due to the excluded number of litigations on trafficking cases.

The MOL will coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request a clarification on these matters. The MOL’s Deputy Permanent-Secretary has also defended the suggestion from the TIP report, to expedite the nationality verification procedures, adding that this process must depend on the procedures from the countries of origin, which is beyond the MOL’s operational jurisdiction.

The labour department should also appoint inspectors to regularly police industry and keep an eye on what is actually happening in the mainstream trouble area's a sub - committee needs to introduce strict guidelines and severe penalties , so that industry knows the penalty for labour abuse or trafficking in human cargo. bah.gif

A committee a group of people that waffle on,never make a decision,but

thats OK because its a committee,no one person is responsible, or they

pass the problem on to a sub-sub committee.

And who will pay/finance this sub committee? there's more committee's and subcommittee's within this Junta that soon nobody will be out of work!!

As Thailand has a next to zero unemployment rate, these people must be working at least 3 jobs. Unless of course they have their Mrs/Son/Daughter/Dog covering for them.

Yes, another committee. That will fix that pesky trafficking problem. Thailand is sure to quickly move up from Tier 3 to Tier 2 on the TIP report. whistling.gif

Create 2 committees and they'll go right up to Tier 1 no doubt. That'll work, all non-Thais are stupid right?
