I quit my job to go to Thailand and teach English. I'm planning on picking up a job in country. Everything is in order except that I have not applied for a Thai visa. Should I lie on the Thai visa app where it asks for my occupation, or should I just forget about applying for the 60 day visa altogether and get the 30 day entry visa?

Entering your occupation does not mean you are currently working. It is just info for record keeping.

You should get a tourist visa with as many entries as the location where you apply will issue.

I very much doubt if it makes any difference what you state, but in your situation I would probably put the job you just given up.

I must try putting my employment as 'pimp' on my next application just to see if it is noticed......lol.

When I've applied for a tourist visa, on the occupation part, i just put I am currently unemployed and living and traveling on my savings from my last job. I had no problems. Or I've put my previous occupation at times. I don't think they're too concerned over it, there are far too many applicants to be eyeballing every single application for small details. The most important is the number of visas you have from that same consulate.

Just put I am a currently a tourist and traveling on the money I've saved from my last job.

You do not need to specify anything of that. Just write whatever is your usual occupation.

I change my occupation on the arrival card and visa application every time. Last time, I was a "high-level administrator".

If he was working, yes. The OP recognizes he hasn't got the correct visa and is hoping to pick up a job while he is here and not coming straight in to work.

No problem looking for work on a tourist visa...........wink.png

I just wrote my previous occupation on the visa app. I was afraid they were doing employment checks.

Anyway, I don't intend to work without a work permit. I'll only be handing out resumes and going to interviews while on the tourist visa. I understand that working on a tourist visa is illegal.

Thank you for your responses.

You're welcome. As you can see the postings accusing you of things you didn't even think about are now gone. Good job moderators.

Op. I hope you have done some research about teaching in Thailand. You need a Bachelor's degree to attain a teaching licence waiver and be eligible for a work permit and immigration extension. The term has either just started (ASEAN term time) or halfway through (Thai traditional term time) beginning of October is probably a better time to consider coming, 2nd term starts end of October.

Don't forget to bring your original degree and it would probably pay to get an ACRO police check https://www.acro.police.uk/icpc/

Yes, I've done my research.
