Press asks permission to cover CDC's final report on new charter

BANGKOK, 17 August 2015 (NNT) - The press has asked the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) to allow the media to cover the CDC’s final hearing session on the new constitution in order to fulfill the CDC’s agenda of encouraging public participation in politics.

Representatives from the Thai Journalists Association and the Bangkok Post has submitted a letter to CDC Chairman Borwonsak Uwanno asking for his permission to include the press in the hearing session scheduled for August 19 to 20. The CDC will be reporting on how it has incorporated in the new constitution the suggestions from the National Reform Council, the Cabinet and other groups.

The group reasone that the public would greatly benefit from the information and the charter drafters would be fulfilling the new constitution’s principle of citizen empowerment in politics.

This is clearly an internal matter and nothing to do with the public, is expected to be the response.

I am sure they will grant them permission as long as the press abides by the rules and reports all of the good about it.

If past events are followed, the press will be allowed limited attendence but not allowed to record or take notes on the proceedings. All publications regarding the event must be cleared by the government to assure public discourse is not created.
