No problems for THAI night flights

BANGKOK: -- The first three night flights by Thai Airways International Plc. (THAI) at Suvarnabhumi Airport were successfully completed late Friday despite heavy rain.

“The flights confirm that THAI is ready to serve at Suvarnabhumi day and night,” said Wanchai Sarathulthat, permanent secretary for transport and THAI’s board chairman.

The flights also served as another test on airport procedures, including check-in, immigration and customs. THAI reported no problems in these areas.

At 10.00 PM on Friday night, a THAI flight arrived at Suvarnabhumi from Guangzhou, China. Then, a little after midnight two THAI flights departed Bangkok’s new hub: TG 6561 left for Seoul and TG 674 for Beijing.

“Both arriving and departing flights went smoothly although it rained heavily,” said Wanchai.

THAI has conducted a number of test flights in preparation for Suvarnabhumi Airport’s opening on September 28. The tests are to point out any potential problems before service is switched over from Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang) to Suvarnabhumi.
