motorcy tax

Featured Replies

Tax and insurance on my motorcy expired 8th June. (It hasn’t been used since Jan). I want to use it from mid Sept. It needs to be insured, have its annual govt check and then be taxed.

Questions:

1.Does the tax back-date to 9th June? ,and

2.Is there a fine to be paid? Or,

3. Does the tax start from when it is paid?

Many thanks for any help.

I can only comment on number 2.

I believe the fine is 1 baht per day.

Tax is 100 Baht. Compulsory govt insurance is 323 Baht on a 125 cc.

1. I would imagine it would be back-dated as you did not inform them it was off the road.

2. I would imagine there would be a late fine for the same reason but you can try telling them it was parked off the road.

3. I would imagine tax will start on 9 June, the annual date.

Dunno though. It is not a lot of money. Go to the Khon Song and find out.

Many thanks...... not bothered about the money........ just wanted to know how the system works from a reliable source - as opposed to the local village Thais, most of whom ride around without tax or insurance!!

tax will be backdated to 9th June, fine will be very minimal like 20baht or less

Do the inspection first, then get the insurance then the tax

Correct.

It will be back dated and the fine is a massive 1 baht p/m. rolleyes.gif

Just take it to the nearest Honda dealership and get them to do it all for a few baht commission.

I do that every year for the gov. Tax and Ins.

There is also something like a 3 or 5 year threshold, if it isn't taxed for that period it can't be taxed again and becomes illegal to use on the road.

Not that that matters to many Thais anyway.

The fine is 1 baht per month.

No it is not. Last year our bike was over due about 20 days and we we charged 20 baht. As Stoneyboy states it is 1 Baht per day.

Then you got scammed.

I was 2 months late and got fined 2 baht, this also gets printed in your green book.

Yes, i paid 1 Baht per month too.
