Trump has Univision anchor removed from news conference

THOMAS BEAUMONT, Associated Press

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump engaged in a prolonged confrontation with the anchor of the nation's leading Spanish-language network during a news conference Tuesday, first having the well-known news personality removed before allowing him back in.

Jorge Ramos, the Miami-based anchor for Univision, stood up and began to ask Trump about his immigration proposal, which includes ending automatic citizenship for infants born in the United States to parents in the country illegally.

As Ramos began to speak, Trump interrupted him, saying he hadn't called on Ramos before repeatedly telling him to "sit down" and then saying, "Go back to Univision."

As one of Trump's security detail approached Ramos, the anchor continued to speak, saying, "You cannot deport 11 million people." Ramos was referring to Trump's proposal to deport all people in the country illegally before allowing some of them to return.

As he was taken from the room, Ramos said, "You cannot build a 1,900-mile wall," another proposal in Trump's plan.

Moments later, Trump justified Ramos' removal, saying: "He just stands up and starts screaming. Maybe he's at fault also."

The billionaire businessman's immigration proposal has sparked intense debate within the 2016 Republican field. Several candidates, including former Gov. Jeb Bush, have called it "unrealistic," and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker bobbled his answer on whether he supports ending birthright citizenship.

Ramos was later allowed back into the news conference. Trump greeted him politely, though they quickly resumed their argument, interrupting each other during an extended back-and-forth.

"Your immigration plan, it is full of empty promises," Ramos began. "You cannot deny citizenship to children born in this country."

"Why do you say that?" Trump replied. "Some of the great legal scholars agree that's not true."

During the five-minute exchange, Ramos claimed that 40 percent of people in the country illegally enter through airports, not over the Mexican border. "I don't believe that. I don't believe it," Trump responded.

A 2006 report by the Pew Hispanic Center found that as much as 45 percent of the people in the U.S. illegally entered with legal visas but overstayed them.

Trump said he did not believe that a majority of immigrants in the U.S. illegally were criminals, or in the country to commit crimes. "Most of them are good people," he said. But he described recent cases where people had been killed by assailants later determined to be in the country illegally.

Finally, Trump reminded Ramos that he was suing Univision, which dropped Trump's Miss Universe pageant after he described immigrants in the U.S. illegally as "criminals" and "rapists."

"Do you know how many Latinos work for me? Do you know how many Hispanics work for me?" Trump said. "Thousands. They love me."

Isaac Lee, chief executive officer of Univision, responded to the confrontation with a written comment: "We'd love for Mr. Trump to sit down for an in-depth interview with Jorge to talk about the specifics of his proposals."

Trump - name one. And, no, Justice Scalia does not count, because he is nowhere close to being a legal scholar, nevertheless "great".

Ramos stood up and tried to make a speech. He should now have his press credentials revoked. Apparently some Latinos don't think the rules and courtesy of standing in line apply to them. Just like the 30 million squatters that have illegally taken residence in the US.

Every credit to Trump for allowing him back in the news conference. Every contributor on CNN's Don Lemon program agreed that Jorge Ramos was wrong to 'hijack' the news conference.

Ramos said to Trump that building 'the wall' was too difficult. Trump retorted by saying, i'll tell you what is difficult, that's building a 90+ storey building.

Trump also asked Ramos if he knew how much he was suing UniVision for, a lawsuit in which Ramos is named. The suit is for $ 500 million.

It is clear that this was a calculated attempt by Ramos to 'stick it to Trump' and I think it backfired.

After all, the UniVision demographic are not Trumps demographic or even that of the GOP.

Trump is no longer a closet dictator.

It is really up to Faux to slay this monster it helped to create and that has turned on its mad creator. Or maybe they can take each other down. thumbsup.gif

It is really up to Faux to slay this monster it helped to create...

Nope, not at all accurate.

CNN has amazing ongoing positive coverage of Trump. Not only many of its guests, but the anchors themselves are saying good things about Trump.

Which, of course, actually carries more weight than if FOX said it.

Monster or not, Trump is solidly in the race, and people's minds.

Hillary is finished. Her lack of personality, and respect for law, has doomed her.

Absolutely spot on! Another Clinton, another case of corruption. She may be bound for jail. That leaves Bernie Sanders and hammer and sickle waving hipsters or Joe (call me Neil Kinnock) Biden, a couple of guys in the mid 70s. The Trump victory parade takes place in January 2017.

Which press credentials and revoked by whom....revoked by the Trump accrediting committee of security staff. Maybe Trump should build a wall for his slay the First Amendment conferences. Trump likes freedom of the press for only the press/media he likes. Extend that to the freedom of speech of the general population and Trump throws most of us out of the room too....the country.

30 million squatters that have illegally taken residence in the US.

11.5 million undocumented immigrants presently in the US according to the government data. Thirty million is a wild claim so if one will say 30 million why not say 300 million.

If the word 'accurate' is going to be used it's going to have to be documented rather than just arbitrarily or summarily being thrown out there. Unless the poster watches the news of both neworks 24/7 and has documented it already.

Ramos asked questions and Trump engaged Ramos in a contentious Q&A that involved commentary.

Republicans btw have already lost the nation's Hispanic vote by historic record proportions, maybe 80 percent of it or more in the 2016 election. And the Asian vote thanks to Bush and Trump and all the candidates.

Thank you God for Donald Trump and all the rest of 'em over on that side.

Your freedom of speech is good on your property and on most public property but not on other people's private property which includes a hall they rented.

Your private property rights Trump (pardon) someone else's rights to free speech and a lot of other rights. You can not come onto my property and shoot your mouth off or I'll declare you a trespasser and if you don't leave you are committing a felony of trespass.

You got this one wrong, counselor. You are free to go shoot your mouth off somewhere else such as in the town square. thumbsup.gif

Good Lord, man, if you are going to ramble incoherently, please at least try to make it entertaining.

All I know is the CNN commentators and anchors are actually defending Trump against criticisms.

Now, there's fodder for a serious conspiracy theory.

Some people need to learn that hispanics are NOT a majority or a plurality of voters in the US. Americans are supporting Trump because every other person in the race, Republican and Democrat, is a timid wimp.

Politically speaking that's a very good attitude so keep running with it because there's a brick wall straight out ahead called the election.

Hispanics are the second largest group in the US and they vote accordingly. In 2012 Prez Obama got 72% of the Hispanic vote, which is more than enough for the Democrat to slay the Republican candidate for prez. In this election more Hispanics than ever will vote and it may go to 80% or more for the D candidate for prez.

Very good so keep at it over there on the Trump margins of society and politics.

As is obvious from your post, you are agitated and fearful. Trump is winning. Trump will be president precisely because the majority of Americans despise and hate the mainstream media and their so-called experts who keep trying to scare everybody about the so-called hispanic "colossus," most of whose "members" actually hate each other's guts. Cubans hate Mexicans and vice versa. Nearly every Central American hates people from neighboring Central American countries AND Mexico. The hispanic monolith is nothing more than another dream of you and yours which is about to pop and vanish into thin air.

You know what's amazing here?

It is exactly the same posters who habitually rant and rave and condemn a westerner in Thailand for a one day overstay, or those westerners harmlessly enjoying life on multiple tourist visas, who think Latino illegals should be allowed to steal across the border to work in America, steal jobs from Americans, while getting all forms of welfare and services from hard working American ef-fing born taxpayers.

Hypocrites all.

Go Trump!

I'm sitting here enjoying my coffee and grinning over the comments made by so many when Trump first announced he was running. "Trump's a joke/clown! He won't last" - "No one is going to take him seriously.", etc., etc., etc.

Well, like him or not, he HAS lasted, and a hell of a lot of people ARE taking him seriously, as evidenced by his overwhelming lead in every poll taken. Turn on the news and check the reports on Republican candidates. Who are they talking about? Trump. The others merely get a side mention. The way it stands now, the only way any other candidate could get the nomination is if Trump has a heart attack and dies.

However, while he may (and probably will) win the nomination, that doesn't mean he can win the highest office in the land. He still has to go against the Dems, and that's yet to be determined. So it should be interesting.

The base still loves racism, misogyny and xenophobia. They can't get enough of it. They love the buffoon, Trump. Hey, some people actually use to watch The Apprentice.

They're ignoring the fact that these people vote. Forget the minority vote, all this "throw them out" bullshit eliminated them. Clarence Thomas and Ben Carson are the only two black voters who will vote Republican. It's the women these clowns are doing their best to alienate. He's turned poor Megan Kelly into a sympathetic figure.

It's an ongoing, hilariously entertaining sideshow that continues to fatally wound the Republican party. The party of hate and war on display. Great fun, but a 15 month shelf life on this unsupported nonsense? coffee1.gif

Bottom line, 17 unelectable Republican candidates.

Most of Trump's "contenders" are now making pathetic attempts to imitate him. They fail as miserably as Rosie O'Donnel imitating a Playboy Playmate. This only goes to authenticate how genuine Trump is. He might be an arrogant ass, but what you see is what you get.

And when the semi-contenders are not doing that, they are sounding like each other and all those before him: consummate politicians.

What Publicus and others like him just don't get …. we are freaking tired of lying politicians.

Trump is far from perfect, but he ain't a scumbag, filthy, two-faced, lying, corrupt politician.

Not sure what's considered on or off-topic when it comes to The Donald, but this recent article in the New Yorker was interesting. His appeal to "White Nationalists", the elderly, the fearful and under-educated is amazing.

The Fearful and the Frustrated

On July 23rd, Donald Trump’s red-white-and-navy-blue Boeing 757 touched down in Laredo, Texas, where the temperature was climbing to a hundred and four degrees.

There is a zero percent chance Disgusting Donald will become president, in my opinion. This campaign will simply aide him in his quest to become the most famous guy in the world. He does not like being confronted. And he really has very few answers. We saw that in the debate. Mostly, it is ok to hate people, and America should be entirely white. That is basically his entire campaign.

Haha - Trump kicked that Illegal Jorge Ramos out (Deported?) for not respecting the rules of the presser, then let him back in (legally, LOL!) then bitch-slapped him in the subsequent Q&A that followed.

Trump was out of line on the issue with Megan Kelly and shouldn't be engaging in petty Twitter feuds, but he was spot on as Ramos was not called on and he tried to recite a litany of talking points.

He was rightfully removed and Trump graciously allowed him back in.
