New regulations - and it seems only for Kap Choeng - I cant believe it ....

It happened today (26.8.15). A friend (84 y old retired and more than 100 000 B / month) got only a "temorary permit for 2 month" because the immigration has first to check his home. If there everything will be OK, he can get the extention for one year.

(btw all his paperwork, copies, monthly income etc. were absolutly Ok (he knows what they want to see ...) and he got his visum every year but not today ...)

We heard about this new procedure in advance and asked a lawyer to call. The lawyer got the answer: YES!

But I can not believe that a single immigration office can change the rules published by www.immigration.go.th this way.

Anybody with similar experiences? Please let me know!

Unfortunately they have every right to put any extension under consideration and check anyones address at any time.

Your friend has nothing to worry about. As long as he lives where he says he lives then everything will be ok.

Hadi8253 why would they let you know? Who are you? Is it a retirement or marriage extension?

Does it also meen they can deny an extension if you sit in immigration office at "Due date" .... ?

The (immigration officer's) pen is mightier than the sword.

He/She is 'God', they have absolute discretion in granting you permission to stay - or not......

As with many things in Thailand it can depend entirely on the office and who the Officer is, there is rarely any consistency across provinces, especially if there is a recently appointed person or "new" directives and how they are are interpreted by said Office.

The bottom line really is that as long as you meet the requirements of that Office that deals with your area, there shouldnt be a problem.

I had a friend of mine tell me he was approached in a bar by two Farang who told him all kinds of scary stories about extensions and then recommended a visa agent. If you have any questions the best thing to do is go to immigration and ask them.wai2.gif

No. If it's put under consideration then they would extend your stay for the period of consideration.

"Anybody with similar experiences? Please let me know!"

...similar experiences with extension of visa at Kap Choeng. Member of this forum: please let me know!

With marriage extension you always have to wait for OK from BKK, but as a retired Single I got the extension since 15 years always the same day.

Btw Who are you ? Your answer hmmmm ....

I'm a long term resident of Thailand. I've never had any problems getting an extension. Red flags go up in my mind every time I read the words, "a friend of mine." Do you get your extensions at KCI? Why not go there and tell us what they say?

It's the same three or four posters who bring up extensions being delayed for home visits and embassy letters not being accepted over and over again. Makes one wonder why.

Can confirm that KCI is requiring home visits for retirement extensions as they are coming to our home today. Requested local top man to attend the visit to vouch for my ?character?. Not sure whether this is going to be an annual thing or is a one off, if so it makes the renewal process even more of a bother with two trips over 4-6 weeks.

Of note is that supposedly the completed application (and I assume the "field report") go to Khorat for approval, not Bangkok as in thecase of a marriage extension, so unclear if other offices under Khorat are under the same requirement or if KCI was in need of "supervision", or if it is simply a way to provide makework.

"long term resident": Sorry, me only 15 years living here.

I wrote Kap Choeng - I think that is what you call KCI (first read, second write)

I wrote: all paperwork (incl. letter from embassy) were OK! (first r, 2nd w...)

My red flags go up when I ask members of the forum for a informative answer and get an answer like this

"long time resident" in your case maybe too long.

I have a friend who says they only do home visits for retirement extensions if they know you are married or use an agency is that correct in your case?

Had the visit this morning. Two officers, 45-minutes. Came complete with laptop and multi-function printer/scanner. Took external photos, never entered our home. Upon asking stated it would be an biennial exercise. Blamed false marriages by Indians for the new procedures; not sure what the nexus is between false marriages and a retirement extension for a westerner though. They did take copies of my wife's ID and housebook. Not sure if it is required for all future extensions at KCI or whether we fell into some category.

Did you give them any money/expenses?

See my post of today re extension of stay.

Kap Choeng have always asked for a copy of my wife;s ID card and a copy of the housebook and expected my wife to be in attendance.

Also bought marraige certificate and proof of my wife's name change, both of which were returned as not required.

One would have thought that that was enough proof of it not being a false marraige.

Anyway I now wait tro see if I do get a visit before my return in one month for my extension stamp.
