Police training simulates Armed Robbery at North Pattaya Bank

PATTAYA: -- On Thursday Morning Pattaya Police Officers took part in a simulated armed robbery at a Bank in North Pattaya.

Police Colonel Sukthat, the Pattaya Police Chief, organized the training exercise which utilized two of his junior officers who pretended to be armed robbers.

In a carefully planned exercise, so as not to worry members of the public, the GH Bank on the North Pattaya Road was closed for 1 hour as the two officers armed with guns entered the bank and demanded all the cash the Bank Teller’s had at the time, to be handed over.

The money, which was in fact play money normally given to young children, was handed over and the two men escaped.

simulated armed robbery

I thought they already know how to rob a bank.

You could understand this IF the bank had automatic shutters or similar, otherwise ANY building would do the job surely!

"The money, which was in fact play money normally given to young children, was handed over and the two men escaped." Pretty good simulation, just like real life as the two men escaped. Did simulation include regular officers off drinking or collecting tea money rather than risking health going after bad guys?

From my observations and experience, the regular police are ill-equipped, poorly armed and most probably, ill-trained in dealing with an armed, bank robbery. The bad guys may outgun the police and have the advantage of picking the time, place and having planned the event.

These stories are certainly entertaining to read, but as with many things, are lacking in any substance, measurable standard or sustained value.

Good luck and stay safe.

The money was handed over to the robbers who escaped.

So the training simulated a SUCCESSFUL robbery. What exactly was being taught?

In the next exercise the robbers will call ahead to tell the bank to prepare them a bag of money, arrive, take the bag, and escape. Another successful simulation!

Sorry, but wrong, as the robbers were caught by their fellow gang members.

From the P1 article:

"Police used their training and were able to coordinate with other officers ensuring the two bank robbers were caught and the stolen money was recovered."

After all, a great success story for our finest. They really exercised the full monty, including the all important climax, the presentation of the culprits. The only drawback, in my opinion: The missing finger pointing! Boooooh!

So there is still room for improvement the next time.

But where I really, really have to give the gang credit for, is their far-sightedness, that they only handed them out play money, normally given to young children. Otherwise Pattayas finest would still be desperately looking for their two missing colleagues!
