Wondering what percentage of one baht it costs to leave one light on all night.

Depends upon how big the light is.

Over say, 10 hours of darkness and at 4.2 Baht per kWh:-

A 1000W flood light will use 10 kWh = 42 Baht (we have two but they only get used for parties)

A 100W conventional lamp will use 1kWh = 4.2 Baht

A 32W fluorescent will use 0.32 kWh = 1.3 Baht

A 10W LED will use 0.1 kWh = 0.42 Baht

A 1W LED nightlight will use 0.01 kWh = 0.042 Baht

We have about 350 Watts of outside lighting (LED and CFL) of which 100W is on all night, probably costs about 12 Baht a night.

My GF likes to keep a light on. A small one, like a night light. I have no problem with that. She definitely believes in ghosts, spirits, but that's common is SE Asia.

The psyops guys in Vietnam used to broadcast spook noises along the Ho Chi Minh trail after dark. Used to scare those working there, that if they died that far away from home (Hanoi) they'd be condemned to wander those hellish jungles for eternity. Don't know how much good any of it did, Impossible to measure.

On the other hand a nephew of mine, by all appearances, seems to be afraid of the light. Like a vampire he rises after dark. After cavorting with the children of the night (ah what music they make!), he then slinks off to his bed just before dawn. wub.png

It can be nice to see where you're going. Especially in the middle of the night when you're already half asleep and off balance just trying to find your way to the bathroom without stepping on the cat or kicking the durian that mother in-law, for some unknown reason, thought would it nice to leave in the middle of the floor.

Good information, Thanks.

It seems like a pretty reasonable price to fight the darkness if that is what you need to do.

Certainly not enough to get lathered-up over or start a sh*t-storm with the family.

My family is absolutely fanatical about unplugging the microwave after each use because of the fluorescent clock. I showed them it costs only about 3 baht per month to leave it plugged in, but that only seemed to reinforce their position. "SEE? THAT'S THREE BAHT WE COULD BE SAVING!"

But they don't have a problem with replacing the two AA cells (cost ~ 10 baht each) in each of the analog wall clocks twice a year.

Yeah, same here. It's not for cost, as we have hot water pot going all day.
