jitagon Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I've just bought a Nikon Coolpix S10 from MBK, and the manual is in Thai. Was told that could download English user's manual off internet, but even the Nikon website lists every other manual BUT the S10. Any information appreciated. Can't use the bloody thing without a Thai dictionary to hand. Bit slow. Thanks.

jitagon Posted September 29, 2006 Author Posted September 29, 2006 I tried the Nikonians, twice, but to date, no reply. I telephoned the distributor in BKK and they bounced me around until I gave in and called the UK office. Someone told me he would download a copy of the manual in English. He didn't. I then called the Hong Kong distributor who told me Singapore had it on their website. They haven't. I called the UK, again, and was told that no English speaking countries, aus, us, uk, have yet had the s10, so no manual in English! I then received (eventually) a call from the BKK technical support office who told me that, wait for this, a manual in English would not be available 'for a few weeks'! and to fax a copy of my warranty (what is it with all the bloody paperwork here) and I'd be sent one. Eventually. When I pointed out that this was Nikon for chrissakes, not some cheapo knock off from Laos, the TS guy in BKK told me that all the s10s which had, apparently, been pre-released had only manuals in the country's native language, even Japan. So. Nikon not taking into account that there are other nationalities living, holidaying or working in a country other than that of their birth, with maybe not the proficiency to extrapolate information from something as complicated as a technical manual for one of their products. So. If you do not have a bachelor's degree in the Thai language, or are prepared to have the Thai manual translated at not a small sum of baht, (it's very very long) (and there are two sets), I would advise anyone not to buy one of these models until the manual is included in English. The 'you can download from the internet' is just BS.
astral Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Most unusual, espcially for a major company like Nikon.
jitagon Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 Most unusual, espcially for a major company like Nikon. Exactly. And just to top it off, thought I would totally exhaust every avenue and gave Singapore a call, and they state categorically, that there will be no English manual for A MONTH! What are Nikon up to? Certainly not a customer relations exercise.
