Original passport, driving license, Insurance & Blue book in the car or photocopy is enough?

Hello,

As the topic suggests, is it possible to photocopy my passport, International+Thai driving license, mandatory+3rd party insurance & Blue book and put them in the car at all time?

I have an open top Caribbean and aside from the fact that documents can be stolen from the car, rain is also a factor so I really don't feel comfertable leaving them there.

Also, carrying them with me in a bag is not a good feeling at all as the bag might be lost/stolen as well.

I would feel SOO much better if I didn't have to carry the original documents everywhere I go.

Your help is needed... thank you very much!

Invest in a zip-loc bag.

In the car I keep a copy of the registration book but originals of the insurance documents (copies at home).

DL is in my wallet anyway, passport usually in my backpack with my laptop but a reduced copy in the wallet too.

- In the car I keep the insurance documents and a copy of the book.

- In the wallet I got my driving license (original) and my health insurance card.

- At dropbox.com (always reachable by internet) I keep copies of all documents, including passport.

- At home I keep my passport, I am just taking it on longer trips up country. I prefer to pay a fine than lose my passport.

I always carry my original Thai driving licenses with me, not copies.

I always carry copies of passport pages with me.

Copy of blue book and original of additional insurance are in the car.

No copies of mandatory insurance. The sticker on the windscreen should be proof enough.

Blue book original in the safe, taken out only once a year for tax/insurance.

Passport original only taken out of safe for out-of-province/multi day trips.

And then quickly locked away in room/hotel safe.

Never carry with me on everyday routine.

No way should you keep the original Blue Book in the car, that is just asking for problems if the car gets nicked, as other posters have said keep a copy in the car and put the original in a very safe place.

Last week, on the way form Sisaket to Bangkok we got stopped by a police checkpoint and asked for the car registration paper. As the wife didn't know about the need to keep a copy in the car, it was a 200 baht fine and on our way, even got a proper receipt. Now there is photocopy in the glove box.

Thai driving licence enough for me. Insurance sticker on windscreen. Before I got a Thai licence, I found that an expired IDP worked, as did my UK licence after my wife explained to the police that the horrible EU flag in the corner meant that it was valid world wide. The best was my police warrant card, before I retired. I was bang to rights on a highway with no helmet. The officer obviously understood "police" and asked what the second word was (constable). I said "colonel", jokingly, and was let off with a smart salute and an apology for detaining me. (Though why a colonel would be riding a Honda Wave just to buy some frozen chips is beyond me).
