Largemouth Bass

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any largemouth bass to be found in Thailand? We live in Isaan and have a good-sized pond on our property, currently containing trash fish and minnows. It would seem that largemouth bass -- terrific eating by the way -- would thrive in this climate, as they do in southern Florida. If they exist in Thailand, we would like to find some.

You don't need large mouth bass, when you have snakeheads,a Thai fish

some species grow to large size.also good eating.

It came from Falls Lake is a 12,410 acre (50 km²) reservoir located in Durham, Wake, and Granville counties in North Carolina, USA.

there's a few large mouth bass---ds by me.laugh.png i have done quite a bit of fishing arround korat but never heard of any game fish being introduced.

Not sure if its still there but last year i visited a lake not far past minburi (outskirts of bkk), the owner told me about all the different species in there and charged me 100bht to fish for the day including the use of a boat,

I spent atleast 5 hours out on the water and only managed to hook 2 peacock bass on the lure, after fishing i had a nosy around and noticed the had cages and were breeding all kinds of exotic fish including arapaimer and redtails, i also noticed a few large tanks with bass and other species,

I dont think it runs as a fishing park per se but rather a place for breeding fish to be sold to fishing parks, along with a few bungalows which local police use as a short time hotel.

I read before that they were stocked in some lakes but the Thais threw them up on the bank to kill them. Didn't want them eating indigenous fish.

I agree with the Pla Chon. Really good to eat.

A little off topic, but somewhat related....

I also have a pond and have bought some live catfish from the local market to stock it with.

What I have been wondering about is crayfish or "crawdads".

It seems they would do well in this climate and they reproduce pretty fast.

Does anyone know if any are available here in Thailand?
