BANGKOK: -- Construction of the first phase of the Thai-Chinese railway project which was earlier projected to commence on October 23 will be further delayed due to overestimation of the project cost by the Chinese side.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpitthayapaisit said that the Chinese side had overestimated the construction cost of the first phase of the project between Bangkok and Kaeng Khoi covering a distance of 133 kilometres by between 20-30 percent compared to the Thai side’s estimation.

He pointed out there was technical difficulty in the construction of the first phase because about 75 percent of the route are mountainous and, therefore, tunnels have to be cut through the mountains to shorten the distance.

He went on saying that assessment of the anticipated income and operational costs still need to be made clear for the Bangkok-Kaeng Khoi section and the second section from Kaeng Khoi to Nakhon Ratchasima covering the distance of 138.5 kilometres.

The minister said that the Chinese side had been urged to speed up a detailed report of project study, survey, construction and designing of the second phase to be completed in October instead of November so as not to cause delay of the entire project.

Construction of the first phase is likely to be launched in December and it will take about three years.

In which country are they planning to build this railway? 75% of the route is mountainous?

That is a mountain of pure bovine excrement. Khaeng Khoi is just outside Muang Saraburi close to the Mitrapharp highway.

This is a junction there where the line from Ban Phachi junction near Ayuttaya meets the freight line up from Chachoengsao jct.

Tunnels, mountains??? The only tunnel is the one this guy sits on. I think the technical difficulties lie in how to divide up the pie.

Thailand-China railway project unlikely to begin in 2015

BANGKOK, 13 September 2015 (NNT) – The commencement of Thailand-China double-track railway construction project is likely to face a delay, as the latest bilateral talks have found the project’s value to be higher than the Thai government’s estimation.

According to the Transport Minister, Akom Termpitayapaisit, both Thai and Chinese officials have yet to conclude on the commencement date of the standard gauge double track railway project in the 11-12 September meeting, as the project costs more than the ministry’s estimate by 20-30 percent. Mr. Akom added that the calculation of expense and income as well as the construction plan had yet to be completed.

Thailand and China signed a deal to co-invest in the standard gauge double track railway linking Bangkok to Nong Khai, and Kaeng Khoi to Maptaphut. Both sides agreed to appoint a special purpose vehicle to take charge of the joint investment. A working group will be set up to work out on the proportion the investment.

Thai and Chinese officials will call another round of meeting in Beijing between 27 and 28 October.

Thai government love the Chinese people. Now that they got caught with 30 percent over pricing the Chinese government will cut back 30 percent of free rides to there tourist to Thailand. Thailand will learn the hard way about China. Any motorized product is unsafe by the world safety program. Glad they caught this mistake before it happened. Good job Thailand and remember this!
