EU fails to agree plan to share 120,000 refugees

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — The European Union has failed to reach agreement on a plan to share 120,000 refugees arriving in Italy, Greece and Hungary.

Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said late Monday after chairing a meeting of EU interior ministers that "it is premature for the Council to take a decision today."

Asselborn said that "even though we are in urgent circumstances we have to follow procedures."

The Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary had been among the nations opposed leading up to the emergency meeting.

Earlier, they rubber-stamped a plan drawn up in May to share 40,000 refugees from Greece and Italy, but not all member states are yet willing to accept the number of refugees that have been allocated to them under that plan.

120,000 is just a small proportion of those that will want to flee the conflict and those that want a better life. Germany has promised a better life to anybody that wants it and now the floodgate are open. What happens to the millions that will now try to travel for a better life. The damage is done in giving people hope. Saying you have changed your mind will not stop people coming to the EU.

Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia don't like foreigners (even paying ones) much to begin with.

There's no way they'd be dumb enough politically correct enough to take in foreigners they have to pay for.

As for Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States?....simple...they're too careful to adopt a bunch of poor and potentially volatile malcontents. Besides, no one wants to go there anyway.

I've just got back from holidaying in Japan. A land of low crime, little graffiti, no no go zones, no begging, no Halal and no culture enrichers.

Of course. Both hoped to force a situation where enforced quotas would be handed down to member countries. And of course, Merkel and Junker thought they should be the ones who decided how many each country should take.

Looking after what she perceives "German interests" and advancing her and Juncker's goal of a federal EU with centralized government under German patronage.

There are halal restaurants, Muslims residents, Muslims on work visas in Japan. Do doubt to your disappointment Japan funds schools in Afghanistan, as well as humanitarian aid for Islamic majority countries.

I am not sure the migrants would want to come to Thailand as there are not the free handouts, benefits that they will be able to get in the EU. They would have to work to survive here.

There are halal restaurants, Muslims residents, Muslims on work visas in Japan. Do doubt to your disappointment Japan funds schools in Afghanistan, as well as humanitarian aid for Islamic majority countries.

My post was somewhat tongue in cheek, and I do approve of their helping using their foreign aid budget. My point about not encouraging immigration stands of course.

Perhaps it's because Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia were not responsible for bombing and destroying Middle Eastern countries, effectively handing them over to Islamic extremists, which has caused this problem in the first place. Just a thought!

Merkel told them all to come to Germany, 500,000 a year. Now less than a tenth of them have arrived, the Germans say they cannot cope. Tough. Now trying to force all the EU countries dependent on handouts to take some, but the ingrates turn round and say screw you Angela. Ha Ha.
