Government urged to come up with new measures to help farmers banned from second-crop farming

BANGKOK: -- Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva urged the government’s economic team to quickly come up with measures to help farmers who are not allowed to cultivate second rice crop due to anticipated serious water shortage.

He said that the second crop farming ban would seriously affect the livelihood of the farmers whose only source of income is farming and the government should be concerned with their plight.

The former prime minister pointed out that the village fund through which funding was put in to help the farmers would not help compensate for the farmers’ loss of income.

He said that village fund has, so far, helped farmers who have already started cultivation and not the farmers who are facing the ban.

The Royal Irrigation Department has proposed the cabinet to completely ban second crop cultivation during November 1-next April covering 15 million rai of land. Main crop farmers, too, will be asked to switch to other cash crops which consume less water as most of the water in the main dams will be stored mainly for consumption.

they need to compensate them for not growing, any that try/ignore it should be given nothing, The village funds were run by red groups previously in the north, certainly hope that is no longer the case and the money isnt dependent on which side you support. Really need to teach farmers about utilizing the conditions to decide what and when to grow as well, lots of work to do I am afraid

Of course they need to be compensated fair is fair.

And every car wash in the country needs to close too. Domestic hose pipe bans, regular adverts to the public to conserve water?

Ice however can stay plentiful...

And i thought the rainmakers were thanked for being so sucessful only a few weeks ago.

Alternatively, cant Thai Nostradamus give some advice on expected rain or even some black magic from the pm himself to bring happiness to the people?

Order some rain via section 44 or bring the clouds in for altitude adjustment.

You only have 2 alternatives , so read carefully , 1 let the farmers plant a second crop , 2 compensation . your choice.coffee1.gif
