My boyfriend is European and on a work permit for Bangkok as we are here for about two years. I am American and have been doing a tourist visa twice now. We started the process of registering a marriage in Thailand so that he could put me on his work permit through an O or spousal visa. We know the steps for the marriage registration but have had little luck with finding information on how the procedure is for us to get a spousal visa for me on his work permit. We've looked at our embassy sites and Thai sites. Do any other people who have had similar situations have any knowledge how to do this or where we could find information? Much appreciated.

If your legally married you can get a depenents extension on the back of his extension of stay...it nothing to do with the WP....if not legally married cannot, futher you cannot work on this extension unless you get your own WP

Soutpeel,

I thought it depended on his work permit because witha atourist visa i have to stay for 2 months straight and then leave, If we registered as married and i was on his work permit as a spouse I would be free to come and go more if it arose without forfeiting the rest of my tourist visa and would be a bit easier instead of having to get a tourist visa every now and then

After you get married you will need to go out to a nearby embassy or consulate to get a single entry non-o visa based upon being your husbands dependent. You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, copy of his passport photo page and extension of stay stamp.

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry the visa will allow you will apply for a dependent extension of stay. The same supporting documents will be needed plus some immigration office will want a letter from your husbands employer confirming he is still employed.

A work permit only allows a person to work. I has nothing to do with staying in the country.

Your fiancee now is on an extension stay based upon working he obtained at an immigration office. Your extension of stay will be based upon his extension.

Once you get your extension you can get a multiple re-entry permit (3800 baht) to keep your extension valid if you want to travel.

I would need to go to a US embassy in a different country than Thailand like say malayasia to apply or ?

Single non entry non-o visa...wouldnt that be the same as applying for a tourist visa?

Extension of stay stamp copy...as in a copy of his WP and extesnion of stay stamp in his passport or?

I thought a single entry is good for 60 days unless you get an extension for 90, but anyways when applying for this dependent extension of stay, do you know where you apply for this like an your own embassy within Thailand or?

Last question, once being a dependent on his extension is approved, does that permit allowance to come and go from the country more than just having to stay the 2 months like on a tourist visa before you can leave without forfeiting the remainder, like does beinga dpendent mean its good for say a year or something and you can come and go more without the rerstictions of a tourist visa? If that makes sense

sorry for all of the questions, just want to be sure understand the process or where we can find out this infor if theres a site or something

To apply for the 12 month Extension you need to start with a Non Imm Visa
You get this at a Thai Consulate outside of Thailand.

With this you can then apply for the 12 month extension as your Husband's dependant at Immigration.
1,900 Baht fee.
At the same time you apply for a Multi Re Entry Permit (3,800 Bht)
This would mean that you could come and go as you please.

This is the law that covers you:

2.20 In the case of being a family member of an alien permitted a
temporary stay in the Kingdom under Criteria 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6,
2.7, 2.10, 2.12, 2.13, 2.14, 2.15, 2.16,
2.17, 2.21, 2.22, 2.26, or 2.29 hereof or Section 34(1) (2) and (7) including family of alien granted non-immigration visa which contains “A” letter at the end of visa code, (applicable only to parents, spouse, children, adopted children, or spouse’s children) except for Non-Immigrant code L-A:
Each permission shall be granted for no more than one year.

(1) The alien must have been granted a non-immigrant visa (NON-IM).
(2) Must have proof of relationship.
(3) In the case of spouse, the relationship must be de jure and de facto: or
(4) In the case of children, adopted children, or spouse’s children, said children, adopted children, or spouse’s children must not be married, must live with the alien as part of the family, and must not be over 20 years of age except in case of the person hereof is of illness or disability and cannot live without support of father or mother: or
(5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must be 50 years of age or over.

1.Thai visas can only be obtained from a THAI Embassy/Consulate )

2.A non "O" visa is different from a tourist visa and can be used to obtain a long stay (up to one year) extension from Thai immigration

3.The "extension of stay" you need a copy of is contained withinin your boyfriends passport.

4.Once an extension of stay is obtained a re-entry permit will facilitate travel whilst protecting the extension.

What you should do is get your husbands employer to sort all this out they will provide you with all the requirement doumentation to take to a Thai embassy/ consulate, get your visa, come back to Thailand and they will sort out your extention of stay/ reentry permit and your done for the year other than the 90 day reports, all you need is your passport and marriage certificate
