September 25, 201510 yr ... Send in the C_______.... as the song goes. Consulate staff for a meeting?
September 25, 201510 yr Is he a good guy? Not one of those partying in Bangkok on taxpayer dime like .... was it Australian embassy staff? Look like a decent enough guy.
September 25, 201510 yr At least Thailand gets the respect of a career foreign service officer -- and not a Shirley Temple equivalent.

September 27, 201510 yr I am sure I will see him at Plaza Anthenee this week for the Sunday brunch as I travel through to go back to work. It seems to be the standard procedure for US ambassadors on a Sunday. Lets see if he does a few "selfies" of himself there like the previous ambassador did every second day. Nope...He didn't make the 200 metre trip from his residence to the Plaza this Sunday. Must still be busy plotting the USA take over of Thailand!! Democratically of course. 555

September 27, 201510 yr As this person seems to be an East Asian specialist, this appointment appears to be a ceremonial retirement gift. Once upon a time the ambassadorship to Thailand was seen as a stepping stone for rising stars in the Foreign Service. This appointment seems very thoughtful and perfect. At this time what is needed is a career diplomat, Asian military regime expert, in the autumn of his career, not some hello kitty cheerleader or some rich retired businessman donor as a capstone for his career. But true, I don't see Thailand returning to the level of importance for America it occupied in the past, so no need for rising stars.
