Where to buy (American size XL, 44" - 46") 100% cotton, white Tee Shirts (under shirts)?

The merchandise on offer can be hit or miss there. They always seem to have an OK selection of cargo shorts and Dockers, although it's best to wait until you see a special sale in one of the open areas of Kad Suan Kaew on the 2nd or 3rd floor near the escalators. Then it's time for Hubby to stock up.

For tee shirts and underwear, he (actually I) order from Jockey and have it sent to our mailforwarding service in the U.S. and then sent here via US Postal Service. Don't use one of the courier services like DHL/UPS/FedEx or you'll get hit with customs.

I wish it were this easy to order women's bras. Sadly about the time I find a make/model/size that works, it's discontinued.

I fail to understand this affectation for white t-shirts under normal shirts. Is there a real reason for it? I can understand having one in a cold climate as it adds an extra layer of insulation but here in the heat? I always sleep on a towel at night which provides insulation or wicking dependant on the temp but wearing one during the day has me scratching my head.

They do have 100% cotton undershirts for 100bht at the moment, but not sure about the tees.

Positive they have white XL.

I just bought 5 black L, 3 black XL, and 3 white M. Funnily enough they all fit lol

XL doesn't seem to be a popular size and the white is less popular than the black, but go tomorrow because stocks were lower a few days ago than 5 or so days ago.

Ask the guys who wear jeans and long pants.

But seriously, I'd imagine they soak up sweat so your front and back doesn't look wet.

Got to keep up a good image for respect if you've read the other thread.

I agree totally! I wear them around the house and neighborhood as (single) everyday shirts! You can't beat the 100% cotton in this heat.

Hanes has a quite good online webstore themselves in the U.S. selling colored T-shirts, polo shirts, and the rest of their product line. Once you place yourself on their emailing list, you'll get literally daily special offers about 50% off sales, discount sales, free U.S. shipping promotions, etc etc.

I buy a lot of stuff for myself (2XL) and my wife (S) from Hanes.com Then their orders are mailed to my mail forwarding shop in the U.S., and then sent onward to Thailand via USPS or similar methods that rarely have any customs duty assessed. Never use FedEx, DHL, UPS for sending clothes, because clothes draw some of the highest custom duties here in Thailand.

For Hanes white undershirts and shorts, Target and its website usually have quite good prices on 5 or 6-packs of those, just like in the photo above. I know they carry up to 2XL or higher sizes.

There is a shop in the airport mall that has up to 5x. It is located in the ground floor in the center aisle about 50 feet from Tops. There is another store on that level close to the exit into the parking lot down by the aquarium. If you are facing the aquarium and look through it you will see the food court. Turn around and go out that way.

I was there today and didn't pay any attention to either one but I noticed the Swenson's ice cream shop was gone. I think they had a smaller one on the fourth floor.

I have not found a place in Chiang Mai that consistently has what I am looking for.

I have ordered from http://www.freshpair.com and had good service and they often have sales.

Information for international shipping is on the web site.

Thanks - these sound promising! Which 'mail forwarding' shop do you use?

Probably in Huay Kaew shopping center, XL shop. They have quite a lot of decent stuff for Thailand.

Warowat market. Standing with your back to the gold shop - Chang Moi road is on your right - walk straight in to the opposite building. go to the back, then up the stairs. There is a shop on that floor where I buy my 100% cotton xl and xxl shirts for 150 - 175 Baht. I can not recall the exact location, so - if you do not speak any Thai - I would suggest taking a tshirt with you and go from there.

Cheers

Thanks for the info and directions. I'll try to start with these first.

Shipito.com - Airmail Economy service. U.S. to Thailand rate of less than $10 per pound of actual weight (no dimensional weight charges). Also, no Thai customs duty or tax assessed here upon arrival. Delivery done by Thai Post to your door. This method handles packages up to 3-4 pounds actual weight.

Good tip. The brand is Double Goose (tra hang khu)--they are sold by chest sizes in inches, I buy 44, which I think is the largest, and sometimes hard to find. Material much lighter, thus cooler than t-shirts made for Western markets. Crew and wider neck cuts are available--I like the wide neck since it's cooler.

When I used Freshpair they sent by postal service.

My experience between companies like DHL, FedEX, etc. compared to postal service is different than some people have reported on here. Now, for me, ThaiPost charges customs and taxes on anything with a value over 1,000 thb. There is a statement on the notices I receive stating this. With UPS, FedEx, and DHL recently I either pay the customs to the vendor and I have been refunded any differences (most notably on my orders from Amazon.com) or the customs is not charged at all.

The customs is exactly in line with what is shown on Thai Customs web site for GATT (I thing that is the agreement).

However I have received things recently I have not been overcharged in my opinion with regards to customs.

With Fed X my cousin had to pay 1400 baht to them for a package they sent to customs. It had a debit card in it and a package of chocolate covered Easter Bunnies. It took her 6 days to get it from them from the time she was notified. For the life of me I can't understand how you always get caught with the mail and never with the delivery services.

There is a mass of posters here who say different. I my self have only had to bay customs once of a vitamin order from iHerb and it was about an $89 order and the duty was 490 baht. That is once out of at least ten shipments.

The op asked about "in Chiang Mai". This, including my previous reply seems to have wandered.

Thanks for the information ! Unfortunately, to use Airmail Economy Service: "Weight must not exceed 4.4 lbs

Summary of width, height and length must not exceed 36."

"normal shirts"

The western concept of "normal shirt" was imposed on Thailand by bourgeois-capitalist jihadists for Shame, aka: Missionaries.

Of course, we see nothing wrong with it: after all, the human inclination to cover the body is an artifact of our subconscious longing for the spontaneity and joy of our archaic primal primate selves, and freedom from diseases ... like guilt, and conscience; that archetypal yearning for our lost oneness with nature; the craving to be, once again, au naturel, covered in a coat of sexy fur infested with fleas that provide an opportunity for delightful foreplay involving mutual scratching.

I think you are referring to the multi-story building on the east side of Wichayanon Road (the road with the 7-11 at its intersection with Chang Moi). If that's correct, and you had your back to a gold shop, then, I think Chang Moi would be on your left (north). I have seen lots of clothing on the second floor of that building; however, there's also a lot of stuff on the second floor of the next building west.

thanks for clarifying, ~o:37;

If you go out of Chiang Mai on the road to Lampang, on the right side of the road (before or after Saraphi?) is a very big warehouse shop that only sells enormous sizes.

It's a bit of a ways out there, but it's a big building with a big (English language) sign, so you should not miss it.

Sounds interesting--does anyone have more specific information on the location? If it's on my right heading south, that's the other side of the road, afraid I'd miss it.
