My wife has dark facial spots from sun damage/age (she is Thai) and it is starting to effect her confidence.

We are not currently in Thailand but she is free to go back for a few weeks in November.

Can anyone recommend a hospital in Bangkok and what type of treatment(s) are avaIlable and the differences between them? And what timescales/costs are involved?

She will only have a few weeks in November but will be able to return for about 3 weeks in February.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as she only sprung this on me today - we were going to go to Italy whistling.gifwai.gif

Why not seek the opinion of a Western consultant dermatologist ?

She just feels more confident with a Thai Dr - plus I'd imagine they have more experience with Asian skin conditions - plus she can get away from me for 2 weeks! laugh.pngthumbsup.gif

There's a lot of laser treatments offered in Thailand for melasma and the like. Best of course to go to the most trusted clinics and hospitals like Samitivej or Bumrungrad in BKK.

When my GF at the time had severe scaring and discoloration from jellyfish stings we found little help at the major hospitals like Bumrungrad but when we finally tried Yanhee Hosp. they were very competent and developed a successful treatment plan.

Yanhee specializes in cosmetic surgery and are well known for gender reassignment surgeries . Their location is very out of the way in Bangkok.

I would strongly advise your wife to proceed with caution. She may well feel more at ease seeking treatment in Thailand but the number of women here who have had very negative results for various treatments is legion. Too many cowboys working in this field to know who to trust. It would be much better to seek a consultation at home to discuss what would be best before coming here and rushing into a fancy looking clinic with uncertain qualifications.

One thing she could try if she still wants to proceed is to go to a reputable hospital here for a consultation where she could speak to a skin specialist rather than just a beautician.

I haven't said anything as I am not knowledgable about Asian skin. But Yanhee Hospital would be a good chice. Startwith consulting a dermatologist thete. Google their website.

The condition that many Thai's seem to have is called Melasma ( 30% of women I am told in Southeast Asia have this . I know a girl who just went to Demotoligist at the hospital to get laser to help her rough and scared skin . She had acne most of life but changed diet and now that condition she battled her whole life with cremes and promises spending much $ that never went away is gone. If you eat wrong foods the skin is said to be like a liver and gets rid of toxins we ingest there creating nasty skin . After changing her diet she looks totally different and acne gone but left scars so she went to get laser and Dr. would not do because he said she was not s candidate for laser with a condition he diagnosed ( and common for Asian women ) Melasma . The clinics in the malls were ready to do the laser but when she went to hospital to have done she had to get a dermatologist to order the treatment in order to have hospital do it . This is the stage where she was told it's a no go until she clears the Melasma and gave her a creme called ABH(Kligman) creme and another one 3% Kojic creme and told to use for one month then come back to see if her skin can have laser but only if the condition clears . I know nothing about this and she was disappointed but seems like she was made aware of something she never knew she had and now has opportunity to get to the root of something very common that can be treated . The hospital she went to was Chula and dermatology department is on 2nd floor and is very popular place for Thai women in Bangkok to get laser and help with skin . She is Thai so that is government hospital and she gets good prices as well . I not know how good Chula is for skin but learn Thai skin conditions much different than people from the west so that hospital may be good place for her . I was sure impressed how they had her see dermatologist before laser to check the safety of doing this to her first with the mall clinics and all the ones on the street ready to take her money and laser her with no prerequisites . Hope that helps but I know little just sharing what I witnessed with my friend and you mentioned sun damage and I think this is big cause of Melasma for Asian women .

Below is a link I sent this girl but I listed above what Dr. here gave her ?

Many thanks!

I have told her to avoid these fancy clinics as they seem more interested in selling over-priced potions that don't work.

Looks like the old "The more it costs, the better it must be".

Well, you tried. Console yourself knowing that you don't always take her suggestions either.dry.png
