Try to condense this story, as much as possible-----living in Pattaya about 12 years ago riding a motor bike stopped at the red light, the truck behind me decided not to---or he was asleep not sure which, mangled the bike up quite a lot & me a little. The police decided in their wisdom that it this was a 50-50% accident. They didn’t quite explain what my 50% at fault was.

When I got out of hospital the insurance company said they could fix the bike—I doubted it, frame was well bent, but they had 1 chaing working on completely rebuilding it took him 4 months. In that time I had no transport, so I hired a Honda Phantom from that old garage that used to be on 2nd road. I liked it –it’s a very well balance bike if you don’t add on all those silly extras to it. I took it on a monthly rental, about the end of the 2nd month I mention to the hirer that I liked driving it—he told me it was for sale & that the owner (girl) worked down soi 6 (I Forget the bar now) So I went down and after a few lady drinks we came to an agreement on a price---it had belong to her ex boyfriend who never returned but he brought it in her name, it was too big for her to ride plus she was confused that you had to pull the clutch lever at the same time that you had to change a gear. It was a very good price (maybe the lady drinks went to her head) she gave me a written receipt & the blue book –but told me that I would have to take her to the transport place to change over---so I need to do this at opening 9am as its slow & she has to get back to work. (She was on daytime shift) I was partying quite hard at that time & 9am was about the time I used to wake & wonder what was the name of the person next to me.

A few months went by I dropped in some times & made promises to do---but didn’t.

One customer then took her around Thailand for a month---& decided this was love, so she was gone. One girl said she went Sweden another thought somewhere very near to Sweden like America.

I was on an overseas trip when I returned to find this out----so I just rode the bike , the insurance company accepted…..the tax dept accept when I rolled up every year to renew, I moved to Issan about 8 years ago & just carried on year by year. This year when I taxed the bike the dept pointed out that the blue book was now full, so I get a new one next year but must have the I.D. card of the owner for its issue.

So anyone had same problem--?? I have written to the TV Lawyer…..as yet not got an answer, but I thought someone may have done a change of ownership without the owner being present & have a few clues of the process.

In all honesty, the bike is now over 10 years old and could well be on it's last legs. Is it really worth the hassle to try and retax it every year? I have no idea of what the bike would be valued at but thoughts of having to deal with Thai bureaucracy makes me cringe.

In all these years of riding the bike, how often have you been stopped and checked for documents?

Not to often Gweiloman......although they seem to be stepping the checks up, probably because funds from other areas are drying up. I would buy a new one-----but they stopped making them 5 years ago. Yes I should probably look around for something similar , I feel much the same way with Thai bureaucracy

just use a copy of the green book to tax and insure it every year, do not update original green book no problem

Sorry pool hustler.....a little confused--what green book ?? do you mean the blue book (ownership book)

if yes....its full, that's why they want to issue a new one .

Without her ID card there's not really any way to get it into your name.

Either sell it and look for another used Phantom in good condition (and proper paperwork of course), or just ride it and make sure you've always got 200 baht handy.

You might be able to chased her down thru the housing registrations?

Other wise buy another the same (with the papers) and use the old one for spares
