Cameron hit for slave reparations in Jamaica

LONDON: -- David Cameron has arrived in Jamaica looking to strengthen trade ties with the former British colony.

Instead he has been hit with a request for reparations for Britain’s role in the slave trade.

Cameron did not address the issue, but announced a multi-million pound project to build a new prison in Kingston.

Of course reparations should be paid - in the form of one way tickets back to Africa if they are dissatisfied with life in the Caribbean.

Everyone wants compensation for something that happened in the past. My ancestors lost their land and livelihoods when they were forced out of the Sudetenland after WW1 but why should I get anything for their misfortune?

The irony of these two sentences side-by-side boggles the mind.

O.K it was a very vile trade, yet let's not forget that most of the slaves were sold to the slave traders by other Africans. Many of them had been abducted from other tribes with the sole intention of selling them on for profit.

Therefore those west African nations should be the first to pay compensation.

Maybe they should Ask America for reparations, after all they helped build a nation! whistling.gif

You can not build a nation with the prior slave population because not one of them could ever pass a drug test. What normal person in the world would want Jamaica?

Curiously however the British had no problems with compensating slave owners at the time of abolition to the tune of 20 million pounds, or 16.5 Billion in todays money.

This is an interesting article, curiously it appears Camerons ancestor received the equivalent of 3M
