schondie Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Of course reparations should be paid - in the form of one way tickets back to Africa if they are dissatisfied with life in the Caribbean. Everyone wants compensation for something that happened in the past. My ancestors lost their land and livelihoods when they were forced out of the Sudetenland after WW1 but why should I get anything for their misfortune?
FangFerang Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 "Instead (Cameron) he has been hit with a request for reparations for Britain’s role in the slave trade. Cameron did not address the issue, but announced a multi-million pound project to build a new prison in Kingston." The irony of these two sentences side-by-side boggles the mind.
ggold Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Maybe they should Ask America for reparations, after all they helped build a nation!
Basil B Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 OK, the lets get some dosh from the Italians (Romans), Denmark, Norway, Sweeden (Vikings), France (Normans).
gchurch259 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Why was he in Jamaica ? What Jamaica and Haiti need is Birth Control !! Jamaica should hit up the Muslims who started the Slave Trade business. By the way, The US was by far not the biggest users of slaves.
Ulic Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I don't understand, they got the whole country of Jamaica and all the infrastructure. Surely that is worth more than what they are asking for.
nontabury Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 O.K it was a very vile trade, yet let's not forget that most of the slaves were sold to the slave traders by other Africans. Many of them had been abducted from other tribes with the sole intention of selling them on for profit. Therefore those west African nations should be the first to pay compensation.
Nobb Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Jamaica citizens are all slave ancestors. Big drug country and do not pay taxes on there profits. Who is the slave now?
Nobb Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Maybe they should Ask America for reparations, after all they helped build a nation! You can not build a nation with the prior slave population because not one of them could ever pass a drug test. What normal person in the world would want Jamaica?
GinBoy2 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Curiously however the British had no problems with compensating slave owners at the time of abolition to the tune of 20 million pounds, or 16.5 Billion in todays money. This is an interesting article, curiously it appears Camerons ancestor received the equivalent of 3M http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/britains-colonial-shame-slave-owners-given-huge-payouts-after-abolition-8508358.html
