Went today for 12 month extension to non imm o at bkk based on retirement. First go early or just after 1pm or about 3pm. Even so the wait is long.

Yesterday I had my bankbook updated and bank letter. The letter stated the balance as of yesterday.

Not good enough says the IO. You need deposit $100baht. I tried the line.....bank update yesterday and the bank letter states balance. Guess what.....'not good enough. The tgf scurrys off to attend.

Next the io has me sign 3 forms. Think first was acnowledgement of overstay rules or reporting. The others had no idea.

The extension was granted even then messed up day "admitted until" . It should of been 1/10/16. But stamped 8/11/2016. This was because I had exited and returned on reenter permit . The last io ( I saw 3) noticed error but did not alter date.

To top day off the tgf leaves her id card there. They take that from thai and give visitor pass . Non return of pass is fine 50baht a day. Happy day ....'.not!

The extension starts from your current permitted to stay date.not from the date you apply for it.

Bangkok immigration always wants the bank book updated on the date you apply.

Thankyou ubonjoe. So your saying if I had non imm o then left los with reentry permit.....'then when I go for extension , the 12 months will be dated from my LAST entry. Only post this to help other confused members like me.

The deposit ON DAY OF APPLICATION. ......there have been so many posts on tv where this is not required.

I know your correct about bkk, because you know it inside out. Bit sad nothing is consistent. Even on logic level. What does that update prove , especially when mine was done day befor my application. Zero logic, as is the case with some areas of thai immigration.

Every business be it private or government has a responsibility to review and improve. I'm a guest here but for heaves sake can we have rules same across the board.

The extension starts from the admitted until date shown on your last entry stamp not the date you apply for it. Since you had a re-entry permit the date would be the same as the admitted until date you got when you first entered using your non-o visa.

It is not only Bangkok immigration that wants the bank book updated on the date you apply. At many banks you don't need to make a deposit since they can do a forced update without it.

They want the bank book update to prove you did not take the money out as soon you got the letter and the book update done at that time.

Bangkok immigration prefers that you get the bank letter on the same day you apply because of the branches of most major banks located in the basement.

"I know your correct about bkk, because you know it inside out." I have never been there so that statement is not correct. But I have certainly read many posts about what they want.

It is not possible to get a "same day bank update and letter" for those Immi offices where you have to queue at sun-up to get a number for that day!

I was also under the impression the letter had to come from your home branch - obviously different in Bangkok to Phuket.

Yes I have to go to home branch for letter here in bkk. Some other banks do it at other branches. Ubon was referring to update of bankbook on the day. That can be done anywhere including bkk immigration. However the io specifically asked me to deposit 100baht into my account. Ridiculous IMO but thems the rules.

And of course you run the risk of another IO (or maybe even the same one?) flatly refusing to process your extension this time next year on account of the 100 THB discrepancy.

I recall someone on here saying that what they did was to withdraw the 100 THB (or whatever amount was involved) after they had deposited it so that the balances in the bank book and letter still matched each other.
