Panthongtae ready to hand over the 7-million baht cash reward

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s only son, Panthongtae, is ready to hand over the 7-million baht reward that he earlier promised to give to the police if they manage to arrest the Erawan Shrine bomber.

An informed source said that Panthongtae planned to visit the National Police Office on Friday to hand over the cash reward to the national police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, to be distributed to the officers responsible for resolving the case.

However, Pol Gen Chakthip would not be available and the plan was called off.

Earlier, Panthongtae posted a message in his Facebook page on August 21 saying that Thaksin had endorsed the promised cash reward but it should be divided into two portions – one portion of two million baht to be given to those who gave the tips leading to the arrest of the suspected bomber and the other portion, five million baht, are to be shared out among police officers responsible for investigating the case.

One of the two suspects held in police custody, Adem Karadag, confessed to the police on September 23 that he was the yellow-shirted bomber wanted by the police.

The first two reward payments were a disgrace and brought ridicule to the BIB and the country.

Will a govt that has so much animosity towards the Shin clan have what it takes to forbid the BIB to accept a reward posted by a fugitive from Thai justice or will, as is often the case here, money be the overriding factor and trump all other considerations ?

Don't you just love how Thai PBS keep referring to Thaksin as "former prime minister"? Whilst true, so are other titles that could have been mentioned.

Just shows you why Thailand is so mixed up in interpreting ethics and conduct.

So, Pol Gen Chakthip would not be available and the plan (to hand over the loot) was called off. Temporarily or permanently?

Good opportunity for the PM to step in and try to gain some authority over the RTP (especially as he espouses a pure society, free of corruption) .

After all, who's really running the country, power-hungry soldiers or rotten tomatoes?

Two million to the little people, who helped crack the case, and five to the disgraced fugitive former PM's former-colleagues' senior people. Nothing for the victims, Thai or foreign.

Yay for the Redistribution of Wealth ! wink.png

Let's wait for a conviction first...

but why should cops be paid a reward for just doing their job? Should I have paid the police to have them actually do some leg work to find the theives who broke into my house this year? I'll need to keep that in mind. Remember we gotta pay for them to play...it seems.

He should be handing over the money ton the victim's families. Shame on Thailand with its cash rewards for cops.

Don't be silly...the victims are foreign.

This is the IDEAL way to pay a bribe to the police and nobody can fault him for it and nobody can fault the police for accepting it. (Well, we can fault the police accepting it, but not as a bribe.)

It's a bribe-in-advance.

If this kid was genuine about this payment, he'd withhold it until a conviction in court.

7 million accrues a nice amount of interest.

But he is not genuine...he's seeking publicity, and he's paying off the police in advance....they will now be dem jai and ben nee (indebted) to him.

Smart investment.

Yet another clever publicity stunt to keep the ever popular Shins in the news. More of a bribe than a reward. Cynical?

Don't the PBS people have a more recent photo of fresh-faced Oak?

"Do you know who my daddy is?"

No. Who's your daddy?

You shouldn't have to ask don, you should know.

what's wrong with this story .....

1. explosion kills many Thais & foreigners at a local shrine.

2. police release news with various culprits suggested

3. police chief offers 3 million baht reward

4. Thai fugitive and convicted criminal offers 3 million baht reward

5. police chief decides the police should get all the reward money ....

Un-fkn-believable that police get rewards. For doing their job, and before court convictions. What a Joke.

Does this mean that Bilals neighbours who potted him, and the Cambodian police who caught Mieraili get a divvy up of the 2 mill while the police get the 5 mill to play with, and Yingluck does not get counter sued.

In theory Thaksin is still the prime minister, he was voted in office and never voted out of office.

Amazing how the Shinawatra’s financial resources seem to be a bottomless pit.

more like a blatant attempt to win favor with your old team the BIB.

Now that there seems to be some Red involvement this is quite the conflict of interest.

This is exactly why the police in the rest of the world are not allowed to get reward money for doing (or pretending to do) their jobs.

Here's 7 million baht just tell everyone that the case is closed and stop looking into it further.
