I heard its because of a new police chief in town but it will settled in a week or so, at least that's what a ladyboy told my friend.

Sounds like the deal, new chief new negotiations.

A ladyboy told your friend, Ah Hu ...

Who comes to Chiang Mai for night life anyway ?..i came here 6 years ago when i married my wife to get away from temptation .(we had been living in Pattaya ;-)

There's a lot of Chiang Mai nightlife that is hidden, unless one can speak fluent Thai. And it goes on well past midnight, provided the neighborhood cop gets his backhander.

" Married your wife to get away from temptation?" Somewhat unusual reasoning.

Never understood why the clock on the wall had any relevance as to whether it is legal to socialise or not, in this country or any other around the world.

The clock is relevant because it would be a problem for people living near bars, construction sites, factories, and similar, if commercial activity known to produce noise was not limited to daytime or designated “noise zones”.

But regardless of these rules, no-one is making it illegal for you to socialize.

55,straight from the source, must be right!!

I am a person in my 20's who likes to drink beer past midnight, so what?

surely, no married or otherwise taken thai men or western go to bars, right?

sounds like a dangerous subversive. track his IP address and deport him biggrin.png

I am realy happy , why the all world start to party at Midnigth ?

You forgot Tawang Daeng....

Stays open until at least one am. I bet Warmup stays open later as well.

Warm-up closes at midnight. I think Tawan Daeng is open til 1 am if that's the kind of place you're interested in. I don't think it's much fun unless you're with a group of Thai friends, and even then I prefer smaller places.

OP has also a thread going in the Marriage & Divorce sub forum. There, his worries seem to concentrate on the "sin sod" issue. Here. he is worried about the opening hours of bars.

Surely, he will make for a nice husband.

Cheers.

Of course, he will. If he has to pay sin sot he may welcome an early closing of the bars, but if he can avoid the bar fine--pardon me, the sin sot--then he would welcome a later closing time.

They will fight over anyone who looks like he will pay a bar fine....makes the person feel like he's Brad Pitt...but really he's just Joe ATM.

You mean the grossly overweight, tattooed, facial haired monger.
Come on Possum, this isn't a ladyboy thread.......

When i was your age my farther said if your not home by 12 make sure your in bed.

My father used to say " If yer not in bed by midnight its time to go home " Saying that , on my rare visits south to C/Mai I have to phone the wife as she worries about me being in the smoke on my own so I am in bed a 11pm and phone her at 11 to tell her I am safely in bed. Hmm , got away with it so far and i don't lie , I am in bed at 11pm.

Sorry my mistake.

Sorry, I thought this was a serious discussion. Instead it is about supposedly men who have to pay for sex. Losers. Bar men who disparage bar girls. You people need to get a real life. losers

Get in early, get what you want get out early I say. No Problem. tongue.png

Cynical of me I know but I always think everything is a bit more relaxed at the start of the month so that those with a fresh pay (Thai and locally engaged expats) including BIB and the powers that be can spend their baht on booze, massage, girls, gambling and remit monies made from same to families....then back to the close down after first real weekend.

It appears you are referring to the subsistence earners—those who are broke every pay day; many are in perpetual debt, having borrowed against their next pay day. The answer, of course, is to live within your means—don’t spend as much as you make and you will always have money left on pay day. To most that means to become frugal and forego most of the finer things in life and always look for cheap substitutes or do without. However, to a few, it means get a better paying job, which is more work—work to hone your skills and continue your education. Perhaps that is why there are so few people who have enough money in retirement; they continue to be subsistence earners looking for cheap substitutes or doing without.

'How can bars survive with these laws?' This sounds more a question of how you can survive with these laws.

When i was your age my farther said if your not home by 12 make sure your in bed.

My father in law used to say that to Mr K, followed by 'If you can't be good, be careful'.

Dad Jokes; gotta love them.

Be the change that you wish to see in the world.

I had a gf in England oooooo about 1969 when I was a hippie who said " If you can't be good be good at it " She also finished her letters by saying " All the breast , keep in crutch " Nice catholic girl.. Gawd bless yer Iris where ever yer are.

Start to drink earlier and bring the girl home at 12 not 4am and have more fun in the room.

12 am?

am = ante meridian.

mid day and mid night are the meridians.

Oh my Buddha, just park your butt in Pattaya....on any given night, New Plaza Soi, Made in Thailand Soi are rocking the house at the 4AM hour and beyond.....like party central all the time....24/7/365

I can live with the midnight closings, if only they'd get started a little earlier. The British rule of waiting until the sun goes down seems to rule Asia, including Hong Kong. I'd like to hit a few busy pool bars in the afternoon, break for dinner, then start up again 7:30 until midnight. Of course this is all fantasy since I no longer drink, but I can dream.

If a business wants to sell late, early or both, it should be allowed to.

That's how they do it in grown up countries.

Sneaky Thai bashing.

Not true then?

The British rule of waiting until the sun goes down seems to rule Asia

I must have been applying the wrong rule all these years then: first tipple after the sun is over the yardarm. burp.gif

Not true then?

What exactly are you claiming?

That “grown up” countries have no restrictions on where alcohol can be sold, at what time of day it can be sold, and to whom it can be sold?

Because if that is your claim, then please let us know which countries you consider “grown up”, because all the developed societies that I am familiar with do regulate alcohol sale.
