Bangkok Restaurant News 2015-16

Featured Replies

I like to eat, and Bangkok is a challenging city for eaters, with its wealth of restaurants and new ones popping up, and others closing, constantly. It's quite a challenge to try and keep up with everything that's constantly going on.

So, I thought it might be a good thing to have a central thread where Bangkok folks can give a head's up about good or new or interesting places they've come across, and want to recommend to others, or, perhaps warn folks away from. So... here it is.

What's good to know about eating out stuff around Bangkok?

Here's a start:

The New Yorker Cafe - Sukhumvit Road, Asoke

For a big city that in some ways stays open late, there aren't a lot of 24 hour regular restaurant options available. But at least there's one more now, an American-style coffee shop right in the heart of downtown Bangkok.

The place is called The New Yorker Cafe, and it's not much more than a few tables in the lobby of the Asoke Suites Hotel on Sukhumvit Road, right next to the Exchange Tower highrise and a very short walk from the Asoke BTS station.

They's apparently been open there for a few months, but just this week went to a 24-hours operation, something I confirmed with the staff there during a late afternoon visit today.

The prices are very reasonable, and they have their full menu available around the clock, which includes American breakfast choices like pancakes, waffles and french toast, burgers, sandwiches, beers (not sure on the serving hours for their alcohol beverages) and other drinks, and deserts.

I haven't tried their regular food as yet, but did try a cappuccino (75b) and slice of pecan pie (120b) this afternoon, and both were quite good. Prices are net, and no tax or service charge was added onto the bill. They also only take cash, no bank cards for payment.

For sports enthusiasts, one of the Thai staff there told me one of the reasons the farang owner decided to go 24 hours was so he and his friends would have a place to watch live sports on a big screen TV when the games are broadcast live in the early morning/overnight hours here. So that's an added nice feature.

They have a Facebook page, and here's some photos related to this place:

PS - I don't know the owner of this place, and have no connection whatsoever with this place or any other I post about in this thread.

B to the New Yorker and liked it but no toilet for customers you have to use the ones in the Exchange tower building, When drinking beer not a good thing and for that reason I won;t be a customer.

That's odd.. It's a hotel, albeit a small one... and no bathroom in the lobby area??? Wonder what the staff do?

Are you sure the bathroom isn't on the 2nd floor or where the ballroom / meeting rooms are?
