Need help naming a story

I remember reading a story some years back about a man (or king) who “woke up” and realized he had spent lifetimes pursuing the material and the senses, and realized his true purpose and nature after “waking up.” It’s either a Hindu story or a Buddhist story. It’s a very specific story I’m trying to remember and name. I tried a Google search by keywords but I don’t come up with it.
