Topic: Long stay visa for Vietnam

Post by: promech

Airport tax was USD25 a couple of years back, then increased to USD45. The governement has decided to drop the fee back to USD25 next month. November, not sure of the date.

This should be of interest to Americans as we were not included in the recent no-fee visa announcements.

Looks like the fee on arrival is going back to $25 in November for us Yanks.

I believe it was increased in 2013 or 2014 from the old $25 to $45.....according to this report now back to $25 in November.

I just booked a one way ticket from BKK to Hanoi on Nov 20 and it was 1200 baht with Air Asia.

Since this airport tax is included in the fare, I don't get it..

$45 USD is like 1800 baht..

It's not an airport tax. It's a visa fee. Visa fees are never included in ticket prices but airport taxes are.

Yes, I knew what he meant.

I just cut-and-pasted the notice from my email message.

It was the email sender who called it an airport tax.

I am an U.S. national who has been to Vietnam 4 times since 2012

You paid for the airport tax to Thailand to fly out of the country,

not to VN to fly into the country.

The free visa exempt is only for 15 days. Ok for a short trip but still got to go through VOA buff if looking for a longer stay.

$25+ service fee is a lot more reasonable for 90 days visa than currently priced.

Which company did you use for the visa approval letter previously?
