PHUKET: -- A teen was gunned down and three bystanders injured by stray bullets during the explosive final festivities of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival early this morning.

Thanakij Sawirum, 15, was shot dead behind the Lucky Complex, the abandoned building at the entrance to Saphan Hin, just after midnight, said Maj Pornthip Chumsri of the Phuket City Police.

The three boys who were injured by the stray bullets were named by police only as ‘Thaiyo’, ‘Pol Pol’ and ‘Phuri’. All are age 14.

“The three boys told us that they were just joining the final night of the festival and didn’t know the victim or the shooters,” Maj Pornthip said. “Their injuries were minor and they are safe now.”

As Mr Thanakij drove past the complex with a group of friends, they passed another group of about eight people, explained Mr Thanakij’s 17-year-old friend, named by police only as ‘Jack’.

Nice peace loving Buddhists?

Predictable, unoriginal, shortsighted post?

Sorry to disappoint you, but the mere fact of having "Buddhist" on ones birth certificate doesn't automatically make one "peace loving".

Neither does having "Christian" guarantee that one will "turn the other cheek", nor "Judaism" prevent one from eating pork or "Islam" stop the consumption of alcohol, nor "Hindu" etc, etc...........

Being a member of a vocational school gang (which is where the "belief" resides) does however, have it's own rigorous "duties" and unpleasant "consequences".

Could you please pass this information on to the other similarly predictable, unoriginal, shortsighted clones, who litter TV with the same sort of lame comment?

Brain dead, immature teens with guns. Starting to sound more and more like LA and Detroit.

My career was teaching Crips and Bloods for the most part. Those guys didn't mess with Asian gangs: "Those guys are whack!"

Chances of getting shot dead in Thailand are much higher than in USA, despite wild west image many believe in. Check out the real numbers.

I agree with your sentiments. This may be slightly off topic, but what the hell are they teaching at these 'vocational colleges'? Because finding anybody with any actual vocational skills is like trying to find rocking horse poo. Don't get me started on the 3 'electricians' that came to my house to fix what was obviously (to me anyway) a grounding issue on an instantaneous water heater. Thanks, but any electrical work I will do myself, the lives of my family are at stake on that one.

In the UK at the moment the news is full of a man in Sweden who killed a child with a sword or knife. It's still breaking news at the moment. Will this killing and wounding of children in Thailand get the same coverage here or even in other Asian countries? Highly unlikely I would say, maybe because it is not that rare in Thailand
