Govt revenue falls below target

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The government's revenue in the 2015 fiscal year, ending September 30, was below target by 5.1 per cent due to sluggish economic activities.

Krisda Chinavicharana, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office as the Finance Ministry’s spokesman, said the target was not achieved due to low energy prices. This lowered value-added taxes levied on petroleum imports and revenue from petroleum concessions.

A total of Bt2.2 trillion was collected during October 2014-September 2015. It was Bt117.5 billion behind target.

However, the revenue showed a 6.4 per cent increase from the previous fiscal year.

In September alone, the revenue of Bt208.84 billion was collected, 1.7 per cent or Bt3.7 billion below target.

The revenue falls short of target though state enterprises were ordered to repatriate more to the state coffers. Revenue from the state enterprises in the year totalled Bt161.25 billion, Bt41 billion or 34.4 per cent above the 2014 level.

In the year, among state enterprises, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand was the biggest contributor, followed by PTT, Government Savings Bank, Government Lottery Office and the Provincial Electricity Authority.

Totally deserved. Surprised it was not much lower.

Deserved?

Worldwide economic slow down. Debts from the Yingluck government, poor education for the last 30 year. Yes deserved, but who? Prayuth? The voter who vote one corrupt after the other? The population?

I'm not sure what proportion is allocated to these petrol taxes but it would be interest if the economy contracted by 5% or so given they are still reporting 2.7% growth.

What happened to all the revenue earned from the record number of tourists that TAT have been reporting?

The OP is about revenue, not robbery.

Every tax above 10% is robbery....

There will be more revenue losses from reduction of transfer and mortgage fees from 2% to 0.01% for six months will cost the government about Bt15 billion in lost tax revenue and the measure to make permanent the temporary decrease of the corporate income tax from 23% to 20% .

Furthermore, the tax-revenue target for the 2016 fiscal year has been set at about Bt1.8 trillion after 2015 revenue is expected to be Bt160 billion below target due to lower value of imports for VAT.

The US has had that problem for decades but it is because the politicians spend faster that they steal from the populace.

PLUS they issue the world's reserve currency (gold & oil priced in USD ... soon to be something else or somebody else's currency... should be gold).

Thailand could (but cannot) open its country to foreign investment, do away with corruption, and enforce some already existing environmental laws, but they won't.

Imagine......clean beaches, proper traffic flow, safe roads, zoning to keep the neighbors from opening a chicken farm 10 feet away.......

The economy would boom!
