TAT unveils new tourism projects for 2016

BANGKOK, 23 October 2015 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has organized the launch of its new projects to stimulate Thai tourism next year, with a focus on weekday travels.

At Central World Shopping Complex, TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn presided over a ceremony to introduce to the public three new tourism campaigns to be implemented within 2016. All three are said to have been designed to go hand in hand with the existing “Weekday Special” campaign, which is intended to encourage Thai people to travel within the country on weekdays, rather than weekends.

The first of the three new projects is an extension of the “Must-Visit Cities” campaign, called “Must-Visit Cities…Plus”. It features 12 more destinations which are not to be missed, including Lamphun, Phitsanulok and Suphan Buri provinces.

The second project is called “Khao Lao Wa…”, literally translated as “They Say…”, targeting to lure tourists to 24 destinations in 24 provinces through the use of folklore and traditional stories as a selling point.

As for the last project entitled “Outdoor Fest”, the main objective is to promote outdoor activities available across Thailand, such as cycling, diving, mountain climbing and hiking.

TAT plans “Thailand Checkpoint” project to boost end of year tourism

BANGKOK, 23 October 2015 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is gearing up to stimulate the tourism sector in the lead up to 2016 with the “Thailand Checkpoint” project while setting the goal for tourism revenue for 2016 at 807 billion Baht.

TAT Governor Yuttasak Supasorn said the TAT will promote 12 'must see' provinces to encourage tourism across the regions of the country. The project will help the provinces to accommodate increased tourism and expects to draw a growing number of tourists to the various destinations.

Mr Yuttasak also revealed that the “Thailand Checkpoint” project is being designed to encourage Thais to visit local destinations to stimulate domestic spending. Strategies include a stamp book indicating where travelers have been, in order to qualify for a draw with prizes worth up to 1 million Baht.

He added that in 2016, the TAT plans to attract 150.8 million tourists with a goal of generating 807 billion baht in revenue from domestic spending and 1.536 trillion baht from foreign tourists.

I view a govt agency that approaches private businesses and tells them to hand over a large amount of cash(in my case 200k baht) otherwise threats about ability to remain in Th/visa issues as a mafia organization. I can understand a few hundred baht for admin fees but not 200k baht which is a real chunk of change for their consideration to approve a license. FWIW there was a solution but not a simple one - anyway TAT you're not getting a single satang!

Can we have an update on the initial projects, the conversion of Pattaya to the global hub of sports, the development of Nan as the global hub for senior citizens and the like.

I have not seem a progress report for some time and it seems a bit odd to be starting new projects without evaluating the effect of the old ones.

Lots, it's called sick leave. 30 days a year and protected by the labour ministry. Labour is fairly cheap in Thailand and the bureaucratic behemoths like the banks, utilities and telecoms are overstaffed so as to manage frequent absenteeism of their staff.

They will have to do better than that to get foreign tourists into the country. All the silly visa restrictions they are making just turns tourists away as is the world wide publicity of people being murdered

The Uber rich but they fly to Paris rather than stay here. I am predicting 40 million tourists next year a jump of 30%
