Pattaya Hotel “incident” creates a stir on Facebook



PATTAYA: -- A video was posted on Facebook on Sunday which appeared to show a Thai woman being assaulted by a Hotel employee which led to his dismissal as confirmed by the Hotel’s Deputy Manager who we spoke with.

The incident occurred just after Daybreak on Sunday at The Sun Xclusive Hotel on the Thappraya Road in South Pattaya and was filmed by a passer-by. The video shows a Thai woman, who claimed she was the partner of one of the foreign guests in the Hotel and attempted to gain entry. She was told to produce her Thai ID card but instead handed over her Thai driving license. The Hotel refused her entry which led to a prolonged argument with the Reception staff.

Eventually the woman was escorted outside where the arguing continued, culminating in one of the receptionists kicking her and attempting to push her down stairs onto the street.

Funny too because a lot of hotels won't let just anyone in, especially if they can't produce their ID card (which they are supposed to have on them by law). It's for the protection of the guests. I've seen this kind of story before a few times. Guy brings a girl to his hotel room. Next night he goes somewhere else, picks up someone else. Girl from the first night gets off work, doesn't have a customer, decides to surprise teerak from the previous night only to find he's already replaced her. Screaming and fighting start between the women. Not good for the guests or the hotel.

I read that a woman tried to get into a hotel, showed her drivers license instead of her national ID, receptionist said "no", woman got upset and an argument got out of hand.

Am I missing part of the article ?

And why the hell won't a hotel accept a DL instead of an national ID? It's got her name, photo nationality and address on it.

I feel it is a positive that a hotel actually makes some effort with respect to security.

If she was a partner of a hotel guest, he could have been called. If he was not answering or out, and she was not registered, then of course she should be blocked. Then one might presume a bit of a hissy fit from someone turning up at daybreak.

Over-reaction by security staff is a problem though, but I bet she was difficult. The other guests should also not have to put up with this woman's yelling.

Well he certainly has to go home but whether he treats his wife and kids to the same treatment a rude vocal woman who isn't getting her own way gets is a stretch. Of course he should not assault her, but she has to be removed from the premises, quickly. As to calling the police, yeah, good luck with that in the early hours, you can't get them to attend far more serious occurrences.

The best they can do is escort her off the premises and block her from re-entering.

I am on the side of the hotel. Seems like reasonable security I would expect from any hotel. Why the hell was she going into the hotel just after daybreak? Seems a bit odd. And oh ... if you need a Thai driver's license you can still get one on or near Khaosan Road in Bangkok. Well, I imagine Pattaya has an ID outlet somewhere.

if this had been dealt with in the correct manner it would not have ended in this way, firstly she said she was a partner to a gentleman in one of the rooms , was this checked secondly she proffered her driving licence which was rejected why? all this should have been dealt with on the premises by a manager not by a couple of yobbos .

Was she with a her farang partner or not?

In other threads posters proudly state that a Thai DL is fully usable for identification. Here it is not.

A hotel that serves this name would try to check back with the farang guest whether the lady is his or not.

An even better hotel knows its guest.

Not an extra guest friendly hotel. Nowadays i know better than to book a hotel without my gfs name included or checking in with her overseas included. Its a bit of a snobby thing for pattaya tho, being that the whole place is propped up to support the local sex industry, otherwise the hotel wouldnt have a reason to exist imo. I dont get why some thais get an attitude when theyre in a position, even the hookers get an attitude towards 'lower class' staffers like they are their servants. The whole face and respect macho crap really irritates me.

It is about "unescorted" women who are not guests that have checked in.

Don't be confused...happens in many hotels in New York city as well.

As far as the ID....you will see a sign at all hotels that unescorted women, that are not signed in as guests, must leave an id with the receptionist (the hotel wants a national id because that is easier to trace). Up to them..not to us.

Totally agree. I had a hard time staying even a few weeks. It's just too much over the top. I don't mind a short visit, but the sex trade has alot of peripheral drawbacks. Not condemning it (watch all the defensive guys jump in at this)...just saying, you got to expect that things will not operate as they do in quieter places. Any young gal with a skirt that wants to slip by the door is a suspicious person. Not true everywhere...

What really amazes me is that some guys who have replied to the topic have no idea that this id check goes on.

15 years ago when first in Pattaya had a similar situation as you mentioned. Had picked up girl on Pattaya Beach came back to hotel with her for a few days then we parted. A few nights later was asleep with another girl when room door opens. Was the fist girl who the staff let in since they had seen her with me before. She was nice girl though when saw me and other girl (who was still asleep) she just waved bye bye and slowly closed door, no histerics. Never saw her again.

PATTAYA: -- The executives of the Sun Xclusive Hotel on Monday publicly apologised for the inappropriate behaviour of its reception staff following negative criticisms on Facebook.

Suvit Vanichprapa, group general manager at Sunshine Hotels & Resorts, said at the press conference that the management was upset with the incident.

He insisted that driver’s license can be used as an ID for check-in. Yet, strict screening process had been imposed as people have disguised themselves as guests and stole guests’ properties. He also blamed a breakdown in communications with the staff, lack of knowledge and their stress level. Saying this is a valuable lesson to all tourism operators, he vowed to toughen the recruitment standards.

The press conference followed the video posting by a Facebook user named Pitty Oommy, who said she took the video herself. In her video, a Thai girl named Mon was about to enter the hotel entrance to open a room for her Bangladeshi boyfriend, using her driver’s license as the ID. The reception staff however pushed her away.

At the press conference, Mon accepted the apology, saying she was pleased with the hotel’s response. Yet, she noted that this incident should not reoccur.
