NCPO warns Redshirts not to don red shirts

webfact

Recommended Posts

The ruling military junta warned that Redshirt leaders will be held responsible if their supporters go ahead with a plan to wear red shirts simultaneously all across the country Sunday.

Gosh I hadn't heard about this! Thanks Junta for spreading the word to every village and hamlet. Now Junta please arrest yourself for spreading this information.

Besides Man U, is Liverpool playing?

Besides Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are also playing on Saturday 31st, so no red shirts for you on Sunday.

However if you like red and white stripes, Sunderland and Southampton are on the field on Sunday..

Surely one of these teams is playing that Sunday: Ajax, Bayern Munich, Benfica ----and ---- how could anyone overlook Nottingham Forest?

Getting arrested for wearing a shirt. Ridiculous. There are laws that can prosecute wearing a shirt?

Are you a graduate of the LT school?

Looks like you graduated for twist and confuse and write things which are in fact lacking in truth, very lacking truthful reporting and quoting.

Please write English.

Maybe they could wear red underwear and secretly flash each other instead.

The governments stance is becoming more farcical every day. If the redshirts announced that instead of wearing a red shirt they would adopt a monty python

' silly walk ' the government would warn against that too and oblige the police to arrest everyone with a suspicious gait.

Ridiculous ?? Well how about eating sandwiches ?

There is nothing ridiculous whatsoever about your post as far as I can see. History shows that a look in the eyes in some countries has proved enough for arrest and prosecution. Edited by baboon

Hey, I'm rather taken with the idea of a silly walk a la Monty Python to show support for democracy. Go for it!

Absolutely brilliant

http://www.intophuket.com/colors-of-the-week-in-thailand/

Guess what the Thai colour is for Sunday?

Sunday – Red (Sun)

Sunday is represented by the sun and the god Surya who is considered by some to be the supreme deity. He is linked to the color red and is often depicted riding a great chariot pulled by seven horses. He is sometimes shown with two hands, each holding a lotus, or with four hands, holding a lotus, chakra, conch and a mace.

I guess Uncle Pravit doesn't know this!

Sunday is the day to wear red. Would arresting people for wearing the color of the day not be going against Thai culture. Perhaps the same people wear yellow on mondays,or blue on fridays.

Or is it people the military feel are red shirts cannot wear the color of the day but all other Thais can? What is it?

If this is a foretaste of the junta's fixation with red clothing, then you had better forget about Christmas in Thailand this year!

We can't have too many Santa Clauses in traditional red costumes running around brainwashing impressionalbe children, and making perverse political statements like "Peace on earth", and "Goodwill to fellow men", can we?

Despite what the junta may prefer though, I just can't see the yellow Santa Claus costumes catching on any time soon.

only Santa can bring back happiness to the people, or the shopkeepers, and hoteliers anyway.

Encourage them to wear their Redshirts with pride...then if they open their mouths to speak about any subject...arrest them for lease majesty...take them to jail where they will all commit suicide by hanging...take possession of all their wealth and property...and distribute it among the elite military and police...this will take care of the dreaded..."Redshirts are coming!"wai2.gif

said Gen. Pravit, who also serves as Minister of Defense. “I insist that anyone can wear red, because today there is no [political] division based on different colors anymore, but it doesn’t mean that they can wear red to band together to do something.”

The first part of his statement is a blatant lie.

The second part of his statement is his own acknowledgement that the first part of his statement is a lie.

These guys are the brightest bunch of generals, are they?

Law will deal with any red-shirt rally on Sunday: Prawit
THE NATION

Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra joins a colourful festival at Samut Prakan yesterday and throws lotuses at a boat procession carrying a sacred Buddha image. Several other former Pheu Thai MPs were also present.

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has warned red-shirt leaders against mobilising members to rally in support of former PM Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday over the legal actions being taken against her.

He said if a rally is held on that day, the red shirts leading the protest would be held responsible. "Everyone can wear red but there is no use wearing red and rallying. It is not allowed," he said. "We are not afraid of any groups expressing their opinions. We will take action according to the law."

The red-shirt rally threat came after the government moved to make Yingluck pay for civil liability incurred from her government's rice-pledging scheme; the amount will be determined by the Finance and Commerce ministries.

Yingluck and her Pheu Thai Party say the move is unjust because the criminal trial against her over the scheme has only just begun. However, the government said it would be charged with negligence if it did not act before the case's statue of limitations expires.

Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda warned red-shirt leaders not to exploit people's sentiments in relation to Yingluck's case. "I do not ban rallies. I want everyone to exercise sound judgement over whether the country should be divided over this," he said. "The national divide must end. Don't incite mass supporters over justice. Right or wrong, it should go by the law.

"Don't cite any reasons [to rally] such as democracy … as it is not worth wrecking the country's unity. If I have to go to court one day, no one needs to display their support for me because we can walk within the framework of the rule of law," he said.

Meanwhile, United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) core leader Nuttawut Saikuar wondered why the authorities have "overreacted" about the prospect of people rallying on Sunday. He said Yingluck was concerned the matter has been "blown out of proportion".

"We are worried that when the time comes, there may be other groups intentionally wearing red and staging rallies to create conditions that the government can cite to fully exercise its power so the red shirts become culprits," he said. "I hope every sector has honour and does not use this disgraceful method.''

Prawit dismissed UDD chief Jatuporn Prompan's claim that there is widespread graft in the Bt5-million tambon fund project. He said he had officials explain the implementation of the project in detail and Jatuporn must substantiate his allegations with evidence. "It is not good to make unfounded allegations. Show me who has got the money. I will bring all culprits to judgement,'' he said.

He said the National Council for Peace and Order had military personnel check the project's progress and transparency.

Kwanchai Sarakham (formerly Praipana), chairman of the red-shirt Rak Udorn Group of Udon Thani, said he would not urge his members to wear red shirts on Sunday. He said his group had toed the line for more than a year and did not want to cause any problem. He urged red shirts in the 20 Isan provinces to keep their faith and love Yingluck in their minds.

"Don't do anything that will cause trouble for her or for the government, otherwise we will be blamed for being troublemakers,'' he said. He called on the red shirts to maintain a low-profile until democracy blossoms. "I believe Udon people have good judgement,'' he said.

....We will take action according to the law.

Bit vague. Which particular law is he talking about. Is it article 44?.

Even if its not, was the law he is talking about passed through an elected assembly (excuse the pun..realise we are speaking about assembly in both contexts - one the right for people to assemble, the other where elected representative assemble).

The minute one junta spokesman mentions the law I have to laugh, they haven't exactly followed and respected it themselves...

too bad I will be in Laos next Sunday, would have loved to wear red in Thailand, in any case, no-one in Laos will make me take responsibility for wearing red.
