Myanmar to grant one-month visa for foreign correspondents to cover election

YANGON, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Ministry of Information is arranging one-month visa for foreign correspondents who are to cover the upcoming general election set for Nov. 8, said a notice of the ministry Monday.

The foreign correspondents are urged to draw media accreditation cards, issued by the Union Election Commission, after their arrival and contact the local Myanmar Foreign Correspondents Club.

Foreign correspondents with media accreditation cards will be able to cover the election processes throughout the country, the notice said, adding that if they want to cover news in the compound of polling stations during the elections, they are required to seek special permission from respective district and township election commission offices to be able to enter the compound.

Meanwhile, there has been 10,789 local observers in 12 groups along with international observers, including those from the European Union.
