Migrants on Slovenia-Austria border 'being overcharged for basic supplies'

PARIS: -- “We’re waiting here at the border for many hours, and the Slovenian people are selling pizzas…” These are the words of one among some 2,000 migrants waiting to cross the Slovenian-Austrian border.

Many waiting to make the crossing from the village of Šentilj say they are being overcharged for basic items in an attempt to survive.

Euronews spoke to Mohammed, a Syrian who says he’s been seeing the same thing for the past 20 days. People, he says, are even selling medical supplies at much higher prices than usual.

Others say there is a dearth of aid agencies and supplies, with only the police visible, despite low temperatures.

Rashed, also from Syria, said the weather had been cold for at least two days, but he had not seen any aid agencies.

Euronews journalist Attila Magyar sent this report from Šentilj:
“Though the winter is coming it seems the number of people arriving from the Middle East is not slowing down. We have seen that the authorities have, so far, not prepared for the cold weather. This situation could offer up fresh opportunities to the profiteers.”

Along the same stretch of the border, some locals could purportedly be seen handing out free hot meals at migration centres.

The flow of migrants changed route in October, 2015, when Hungary fenced off its border with Croatia. Those trying to reach Germany are now heading through Slovenia.

Slovenia has asked for international help to cope with the influx. In the last week (up to October 27), a reported 50,000 migrants arrived in the country, which has a population of just two million.

It seems that everybody is still heading for Germany. Well done Merkel. It seems that the immigrants will never forget your welcome everybody speech.

The answer is simple, a hot meal and a bus ride as directly as possible to Germany. Get the river

flowing as quickly and efficiently as possible. Germany can handle it, Germany will find a way.

Merkel has made the announcements and she has been heard far and wide. Germany is the

goal of most and they should not be denied. tongue.png

Merkel and G. Custer may both have or had similar thoughts as the end approaches and hopes for glory vanish, Where in hell did all of those people/indians come from?

Both seem to have over looked the importance of good point men and scouts.

Not overcharging, just market forces. If you have 100 pizzas to sell, and 100,000 potential customers needing food, of course the price will go up. They should have made up more sandwiches for the trip.

Rubbish. Profiteering under crisis conditions is vile.

The high polution season has arrived in south Thailand and the north is approaching its annual heavy smog blanket season The drugstores in CM have raised prices of commonly used/perscribed respitory meds in the past 2 to 3 weeks by 40 to 100%.

I have to agree with post 13 this and similar pricing/action is vile behavior as peoples lives are put in danger and in some cases lost. This is done just to make the almighty currency and people involved pckets buldge more than those in most need. Reminds me of wolf packs that kill livestock , (way more than they can consume), just for the sport of the chase and kill.

Its difficult to be proud of being called one of these civilized humans and even less so to be included in what is called the religious portion of the population who plead for financial help so their group can help those who are suffering and dieing.
