Want To Retire In Thailand But.............

Recommended Posts

I'm married to a Thai for 4 yrs and we live now in U.S. but

someday would like to retire in Thailand. It seems though that Thai

immigration policy is unfavorable. From what I understand there is a

married man visa or retirement visa but either one of these options is only

for 12 months. Do people who retire in Thailand or live with spouses there

leave the country every year and come back? Also is it true I cannot own

a home with her in Thailand?

So long as you fit the criteria the 12 month visa is extendable every year.

You can own a home albeit a condominium , you cannot own land.

Your wife can own land.

If you do a search there is loads of information.

Look at the newer threads as some things have changed recently.

As Percy says, do a search, but if this comes up with a blank, as it might depending on what you ask, have a look through the visa section forum.

You will have plenty of reading there, but as Percy says look at the recent posts because it has changed recently.

Also just post your questions there, you will get more of an audience for your type of question.

Good Luck

As stated before, you can renew every year, and if you are successful in doing so, you don't need to ever leave Thailand ... but you will probably want to at least occasionally.

Regarding coping with future rules changes at least for retirement, the simple answer is: if you are "rich" no worries, if you are middle level wealth you better worry, if you are poor, forget about it.
