Hey guys,

I have been trying to purchase some items on Lazada and make use of their 10% off on Mondays when using Mastercard. Frustratingly, my card is rejected by them on purchases over 1000 baht or so. It goes through my bank's security and then gets declined. My bank claim there is no issue at their end and Lazada claim none at theirs. I have triple-checked all details are correct and I have not had issues using my card anywhere else. I am buying lots of things including components to build a new computer so the 10% discount would be of great benefit to me and I don't want to miss out just because of some technical error.

I have started the process of changing my billing address to my place in Thailand in hopes that might fix it but it will take time and it's only a guess that it might help. Does anyone else have any suggestions about how I can solve this issue?

Are you talking about a Thai Master Card or foreign? Believe the discount is only valid for local bank cards.

It is a foreign card, yes. Shame I am not eligible if so but thanks for the info.

There terms and conditions are all in Thai JPG so can not be automatically translated - but suspect it is local cards only. They do offer 10% off at times for even COD but you may have to wait awhile as it is not as often as it used to be. Also be careful as there seem to be a lot of sellers offering drop shipment (no COD shipped from outside Thailand) now and in every case I have checked these are cheaper buying direct on Ebay (although not sure if delivery is any faster than the normal slow 1-3 weeks from China via Ebay).

Pretty sure that 10% only applies to certain Thai Mastercards.

And just for a related example when using a card for online purchase sometimes, the first time I used AliExpress they initially accepted my U.S. credit card (I was ordering from Thailand), they cancelled the order in about 24 hours, and then sent me an email that I would need to email them a copy of the card and some photo ID so they can verify I have the card/verify who I really am. Doing some googling and reviewing the AliExpress site I found this was not uncommon at AliExpress for some foreign orders. Anyway I emailed them the stuff they wanted, got an email back a few days later saying they had coded my card in their system to be accepted in the future, I replaced the order and it went fine.

I have used my foreign Mastercard to purchase items from Lazada and get their Monday 10% discount. The card was declined twice though and the problem was with the card issuer and their security arrangements. You need to double check that they cleared your card for use in Thailand.

Go to this Mastercard website to get a few more details on the offer: Link.

Notice in one spot it says and to quote:

Cardholders in Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia are eligible for this offer through the dedicated website in their country:

To me that kinda implies the card should be issued from a bank within those countries....or then again, maybe it means only when ordering through certain Lazada website that's identified in the full details (not quoted above). As Henryford posted above he got his foreign Mastercard to work. But one time many months ago when I research this Lazada Mastercard offer I googled upon a Malaysia webpage which gave details in English and it only applied to certain Malaysia bank issued Mastercards. Just hard to get a clear, precise answer sometimes.

I may give my U.S. issued Mastercard a try on Lazada one day...it gets used a lot for purchases in stores in Thailand so I know the card issuer will not reject it for a Thailand based store purchase...hopefully, not for an online purchase also. But depending on how Lazada screens their online card purchases they may reject the purchase because the address tied to my Mastercard is a U.S. adddress and my shipping address for the Lazada purchase would be to Thailand. I'm pretty sure that's why AliExpress initially rejected my puchase because I saw posts of people paying for AliExpress orders orders with their U.S. Mastercard but they were also having the order shipped to the same U.S. address as their Mastercard registered address.

Use your local debit card, activated as credit card so you can do online purchases.

Needs to be a Mastercard to get the discount...the debit card may be a Visa card.

Word of warning if your seller is outside of Thailand, I've bought lots from them with about a three day delivery but last month I ordered a little toy for my daughter on the 10th Oct and it arrived 12th November seems it came from Malaysia. This usually happens when you can't use cash on delivery.

I would never buy something expensive at Lazada using a creditcard.....If there is a problem and you don't get any warranty from them you pay a lot more than buying it for 200 Baht more at jib computer, banana it or best invadeit.
