Finally got a car and decided to get a dash camera (just in case).

Haven't needed it yet but I've just had my first real excuse to grab some footage......

It appears to be a "GS9000".

It claims to be full HD but I think it was set to 720 here.

I'm still trying to find the best settings after fidding about trying to change it to English.

I think the exposure settings were set to high here.

Does the cam have a Wide/High dynamic range option? If yes, you'll want to enable that. There's some high contrast scenes here with very little dark area detail.

I'll check to see if I can find that later on.

My Furry Dice spoil the view. Kids and their bloody Toys.!! If they were that usefull perhaps they would be O.E. instead of Cruze Con and Stupid Bleepers for seat belts.sad.png ..

No denying it can be Useful if your insurance is crap. But on an average sized Car Windscreen , that Mini Sink Plunger and Twisted Metal Holder "ting" causes a blind spot.An SUV s big screen a safer application.thumbsup.gif

Furry dice hang from the mirror stalk.

Dash cam would be installed closer to the windscreen than your furry dice.

Nice attempt at a dis though.

Little story a few months ago a German friend of mine hit a lady who was crossing the road. She broke her arm.

Thais came out of the woodwork telling all he was driving like an idiot. And it was going to cost him big time.

Cops arrived listened to the Thais tell their tail.

It was then that my chum who by the way speaks good Thai took out his camera, and there it was in black and white.

Upshot

Thai's told to get lost German won.

No loss of no claims bonus or any other agro.

Theses cameras are small and if like mine fit behind the rear view mirror.

If you think that they are not worth a few Bt up to you. By now you should know that as a non Thai you will lose every time unless you have something in black and white to back you up.

Buddha help you if anyone has been killed you'll be for the high jump. Insurance or no Bloody insurance.

Unobtrusive would be nice.. My friends are clumpy things and fall off.[emoji23]

Yep - I've never had a suction-mounted-anything that actually stayed stuck to the windscreen. I have had a few try their best to destroy tint film though...

If you buy an action cam, or one of the name brand (e.g. Transcend) dash cams, you can get a permanent adhesive mount for them, which doesn't fall off, and is much less bulky too, allowing the cam to be placed higher up and/or further forward on the windscreen.

Some brands (e.g. Ford) now offer dash cams as genuine accessories - the Ford ones at least are much more discreet that anything aftermarket.. That said, any car that has modern safety features like lane departure warning already has a front facing camera - why can't they just add a micro SD slot and let us use the "dash cam" that's already in the car??!?

Just because you chums ones are at best rubbish doesn't alter the fact that they are a good back up just in case.

When was the last time you had a crazy Thai Without lights coming towards you at night. I would hazard a guess 2/3 at least, last time you were out.

My one is 2,1/4"x 4" overall size so not obtrusive, if you buy crap or cheap they might fall off. Mine hasn't come off once in the over 6 months I've had it.

Only thing that could be regarded as agro is it makes a slight ping noise as it powers up.

Reminds me to check, as said it's mounted behind the left side of R/V mirror so cant see it from drivers seat.

You plod on relying on your insurance to get you out of trouble. I like many others will go down the back up route.

Good post, but if you don't have like myself a tint film on windscreen you shouldn't have any problem with things falling off. Also have a phone holder my phone is rather large/heavy, that has never come off either. Just make sure that you clean the glass and sucker well prior to adhering and you should be ok.

So I've had one fitted today. Not that I buy into the Ferang Paranoia about insurance cobblers but for 3k fitted it's a novelty. Also fires up when parked.Promise not to post on U Tube like those Thai Bashers.[emoji56]

If it's a suction mount, I hope you got the one-in-a-million that doesn't fall off :P

He'll be lucky I got the only two that do that 'Camera & Phone'

As he cant keep his phone one stuck on, very much doubt his camera one will either.

We will hear shortly in one of his posts.

What's the betting in a couple of weeks it'll be nailed to his comp: desk

In Thailand car cams are vital for a foreigner. I have 2, one for the front and one for the back and side. Looks too much? Weeks after getting the first one, I had a small accident. The insurance guy saw the camera and just accepted my version of the events. The other guy didn't said a word. Later, on a road block, the police officer comes strong...but saw the camera... and I was treated like a King.

I got the NT...in Lazada. Cheap and wonderful toy for about 1000THB.

1000bt that's cheap. Had to pay just under 4th for my front and rear.

Question you mentioned side view, do you have a camera for that or are you talking about the 360 view from your front and rear ones???

I know what you mean about being stopped, have been stopped several times in BKK with a cop hand out telling me I have used the wrong entry onto the express way. Now I turn my sat/nav on when driving, just tell them that my S/N told me to go through whatever gate I went through whether I was right or wrong always seen to get away with it.
